Ive been thinking about gears for a while (02 GT 5spd) but never really made up my mind. I could care less about highway RPM's since with 4.10'a I would at 2330, not to mention ive been driving @ 3000 RPM recently and actually getting better mileage.
What does freak me out is comfort, I like to shift around 2500-3000 RPM, with 4.10's wouldn't I be shifting like every second? Even stock 1st gear is already pretty short. So i imagine id shift every 1-2 seconds, then reach around 45 MPH and be in fifth gear the rest of the time..... is it just me or does that almost completely ruin the fun of having a 5spd? Im going to be in 5th most of the time, no downshifting, not really much time to wind out the gears (unless you go to really high RPMs)... its almost like I have an automatic.
Also, I hear you have to be really light on the throttle or you get wheelspin.. again that sucks, I don't like to have to worry about giving it a bit too much gas every now and then,... not to mention I often parallel park on hills.
Id love to have the pull that I hear they give but I don't know if it's really worth it over all these things, I'm not into any kind of racing and will never go to the track, I just like having a nice car.... I just use it for cruising around pretty much.
So what do you think? Would 4.10's get on my nerves?

had mine for a year or more now & never regretted it one bit. still puts a smile on my face every time i drive it now.

it is true about the wheel-spin, but that's part of the deal; and if u don't race or go to the track, then u may not really notice much; (well, unless it rains) i think u do shift less with 4.10s cause u don't have to downshift every 30 seconds; so it is kinda automatic-like.

but, if u never race or go to the track & like shifting alot; i would say u wouldn't enjoy them that much.

The only thing that's annoying is... the car that's in front of you when accelerating in traffic.

4:10s and a KB 6psi blower here...and loving every stinking second.

Except for the fact tha she's under wraps until Spring.

2500 or so. My 4.10s got old real fast as I couldn't keep my steenkin' foot out of it long enough to get decent gas mileage . . .

Hmm 2500 RPMs, right now is like 1800-1900 @ 70. I tell you what, driving around in 4th gear gets freeking annoing to me, because I hear the exhaust too much...and after market gets even louder so if your going off road, like me (Dr gas on its way!!!) then it may be annoing.Im not sure though, 3.73s are max for me, have them in dads 00 V6 5spd and they are pretty nice. I just dont want the extra strain on the engine and equipment, driving at higher RPMs...3.27- 3.73 is .46...4.10- 3.73 is .37. So 3.73 to 4.10 is a pretty big jump, nearly as big as 3.27- 3.73 as you can see. And some of these guys go with 4.30s LOL, funny they all say that 4.30 is better than 4.10 and you will not regret it.Guess it depends on the purpose of your car, mine is a nice daily driver that I will detail to my liking, and I may or may not go with 3.73s...but I will be supercharging it in another 26K miles...so 4.10s are out of the question for me anyways.Oh well, just try them and then you wont be wondering, "Should I have went 4.10s?" Let us know how they work out.

Damn you 5 speeds, with your 2500rpm highway rpm's

If i were to go with 410's my automatic would be turning around 3000, IMO, way too much rpm to get decent gas milage.

well here's my purpose, maybe it would be suited for me, I LOVE listening to the exhaust, especially with flowmaster mufflers. And I use ym car as a daily drive, mostly around town, and once every few months to make a trip about 100 miles to see family... if the rpm's weren't anyhigher than 2500, I'd be ok with that, I guess my biggest concern would be losing the freeway drivability, and if that's not a prob, I'm all for it...

I just got my 4:10 this Monday and I am glad I went with them. Car is so much fun to drive now. You don't have to downshift if you are 35 miles or above and are in the 5th gear. I am telling you all .... go with 4:10's ... you will not regret it!! If anyone lives near my place and want to test drive to see how they feel ... you are most welcome.

Oh i definately don't mind the exhaust, I have flows and a prochamber which is a pretty quiet setup... been driving around @ around 3k RPM and its not bad at all, with 4.10's I would be @ 2330 @ 70MPH, a huge drop from what im doing right now (since im using 4th a lot)
Like I said, it's the other stuff that makes me wonder.
Now, with 3.73s id be at 2000 RPM @ 70, right in the drone zone where it would get annoying, which is why I can't go with those either.
