hey all. gearing up to sell some junk from my 68 Cougar. the PO told me it had a big block radiator, but i dont beleive him because its just a 302 2 bbl. But we sealed off the tranny and pressure washed it to clean it up a bit, and noticed this.

the first two characters read "C6". i thought 302s got C4s?????????

it's the part number. C=decade 1960 and the 6=year 1966
For example:
C4=1964
C5=1965
C6=1966
C7=1967

D0=1970
D1=1971

And so on.
Google "identifing ford part numbers" and you will get many sites that willbreak down the Ford part number. Mostly we car about the year. THe rest is not always reliable. THe trans is most likely a C4

alright cool. thanks! does the same apply for the engine? My intake says C8AE, so does that mean 1968? thatd make sense since its a 68 cougar. wonder what happened to the original tranny...

You showed us the pics of the original transmission (which is a C-4) The C6 casting number on the 2-3 servo cover is correct, even for a 68 transmission. The casting or engineering numbers aren't an indication of the year model the part was used in. That same part could have been used until Ford quit producing the C-4 in 1979-80. Ditto for the C8AE casting number on the intake. C8 just tells you that's the first model year the part was produced

Yes, your INTAKE is a 68. The same may or may not be true of your engine block. Depends on what's been done to it. For instance, my 87 block has an 83 intake. You'll need to check the numbers on your block to know for sure.

My 95 E150's 351 had E7TE heads on it. Does that mean they were 87 heads ?
