the water pump and the pump pulleys look different from the 96 motor to the 2002 motor,do I need to swap the pump and pulley out ?

also what is holding the pump to the block ? I have all 4 bolts out of both motors, and the pumps are not coming out,I pryed the tops a bit with a srewdriver ,and they both came away from the block at the top a little but they wont come off.

Suggest using the water pump that goes with the front timing cover used.

I can be a PITA to remove the water pump. It galls/rusts to the block. What I usually do it walk it out by hitting with soft face hammer to open up a small crack. Then insert/wedge a screw driver in the gap. Now hit the other side. Repeat.

I don't like to pry too much for fear of damage to the timing cover or water pump.
