I have just received my new Pro 5.0 shifter for my 01 Gt, 5 speed. It is my daily driver, It never sees any track time. I have the Tremec 3650 trans. It doesn't appear to be bad it never pops out of gear, and is just a little notchy in 2nd gear (not that noticable). It has 32,000 miles on the car. Do I install the new shifter and the newly recomended 3.5 quarts of GM syncromesh? I read the long Tremec post and by the looks of it Ford is never going to release a TSB even though the Tremec rep said to me they were. If mine isn't bad now could it become bad down the road? Maybe I should wait until the warranty is up then install it. What do you guys think?

Also, I know I said GM Syncromesh ATF but I have heard that the Texaco/Havoline non synthetic is also good because it's not a slick. Any recomendations between the two?

Install it! You will love the difference, and it takes 30 minutes...worst case scenario you have to take it out and put in the stock shifter for warranty work. The shifter isn't gonna cause any problems.

I say go for it and keep your stock shifter. If there's ever any trouble or if there's a recall, just swap it back to the stock shifter before you take the car in for repairs.

Do you feel that you need the new tranny fluid? You can always swap back in the stock ones if your tranny ever go bad. The new shifter will not hurt your tranny over stock shifter and you will love it. Install it right now!

The only problem I can see is if I have to reinstall the stock shifter I would have to buy and install the rubber shifter cover(it needs to be cut to install the new shifter). I would also install new ATF as preventative maintenance. Everyone says the stock ATF is too slick and the GM syncromesh is a mix. Another reason to do it now is because it's easy to install through the shifter instead of the fill plug. And since I am only putting in 3.5 quarts it would never run out the overflow hole.
