Do I need a tune after switching intake manifolds?

Hello...I'm probably going to be putting the Trickflow intake and a 75MM TB on my car this spring and I've heard that that kind of large change can have a serious effect on the a/f ratio. Do I need to tune the car at the same time? Or will the stock computer make sure the a/f ratio doesn't get to a really bad level? I may tune the car late summer, but wasn't planning on tuning it right after I got the intake and TB on the car. What does everyone think?

Who knows - depends how effective that intake is... I'd lean toward the "it'll be fine with stock tune" side though... but with almost any mod a tune will get you more power from it though.

I would almost guarantee that you will.Wouldn't hurt to check your a/f.I will be going threw the similar thing as i just picked up a fully ported Bullitt intake last week .

I'll probably run on the dyno to check where my a/f is at after I get the intake on. I just won't have enough money to buy a programmer or get a tune until later in the summer. Hopefully the a/f will be ok enough to drive for a while if its off. We'll see. 1Low...let us know how your a/f changes with thew new intake, congrats!

Changing the intake should not throw off your a/f ratio. Neither should changing the TB. If you don't change the flow characteristics through the MAF it will addapt until it saturates.

I would think it would as the runner lengths will be different,port size will probably be different aswell,and this i would think would change the characteristics of the air flow,or the amount of air flow.Considering an engine sucks/pulls air like a vaccum.
I was told by two tuners that i'm reclose friends with that i would need a tune after the install of the Bullitt intake.Why would they tell me that,to make money off of me,cause they don't. When i ported my stock upper plenum,and my stock throttle body,it needed a retune,so a can't see changing out to the Trick Flow intake not needing a tune.
Not arguing .Just curious!

Simply changing the amout of air that goes into the engine does not change the flow characteristics of the MAF. The things that change it are clocking the MAF, putting a bend infront of it, basically anything that changed HOW the air flows across the wire in the meter, not how much. Changing things after the MAF do not effect its reading. That is simply not how it works. Spend some time reading Ed Clarks articles on MAF based fuel injection.

the ECU can handle a Bullit intake swap without needing a retune, so the Trickflow shouldn't be any different.

I sure hope it puts out more than 10rwhp, I'm actually just looking for a good gain across the board. If it make 10rwhp peak but gains power throughout the power band I will be a happy camper! 1Low...sounds like a plan! LOL Keep us posted on your install!

I will,but my install will not take place until spring .Stang is away now for it's sleep.But rest asure i will keep an up date.
If you get started before i do seeing that the Trick Flow should be out in Jan '07,make sure you keep us up dated!

No problem 1low! I may get the intake in February, but my car is my daily driver and I don't know when the weather will cooperate to do the switch here in Colorado. Well, no matter what, I'll post some before and after numbers and install impressions whenever the swap happens! Hopefully its sooner rather than later, but who knows!
