DO I NEED THESE???

JUST CONVERTED MY 80 COUPE TO A 5.0 5 SPEED! USE TO BE A STRAIGHT SIX AUTO! I USED A 84 GT AS THE DONOR BUT THE 80 DOES NOT HAVE THE QUAD SHOCK MOUNTS AND THE HOLES IN THE CONTROL ARMS FOR THE SWAY BAR! SHOULD I YANK THE GT CONTROL ARMS OUT AND QUAD SHOCK MOUNTS AND FAB THEM TO THE 80 COUPE? OR CAN CAN I DO WITH OUT THEM AS FAR AS DRAG RACING IS CONCERNED! OH AND YES I USED THE COMPLETE SUBFRAME AND SUSPENTION FROM THE GT AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE I TELL YOU!

The quad shocks are a roll of the dice. No matter what the combination of tires, control arms and shocks, some cars will wheel hop without quad shocks and some won't. There are so many variables in 28-13 year old cars with wear, misalignment and combinations of suspension components and tires that one unchanging answer won't work for everyone.

I personally would install them, and make sure they are in good shape. I do know this, that Ford is cheap. If they could have made changes in some simple component like bushings or control arm construction and saved $10, they would have done it. Multiply $10 times all the Fox body Mustangs ever made and you would be almost as rich as Donald Trump. That's a lot of $$$, and good incentive to engineer something to do away with the quad shocks.

Replace your rear end bushings with high durometer stuff and get a good set of control arms and you can ditch the quad shocks. They serve the same purpose as the dogbone on the rearend housing(thread starters on mustang forums).

I installed them on mine when i did the Gt conversion. Mine was a 2.8l. I swapped "everything" underneath from a 90gt.

Get aftermarket control arms and use the stock GT swaybar.
With aftermarket control arms you wont really need the quad shocks.
