do I need this

I am looking at shifters, but I keep asking myself do I really need a new shifter. I do not plan to race anytime soon so is this something for a daily driver or racer? I have heard a lot of good things about Steeda and Pro50. Money is not the problem just wondering if I should spend the money here.

As you know, it's all up to you. For me, I probably will never invest in one because I can quick-shift just fine with the stock... but it's one of the most popular mods in Mustangs, so maybe I'm missing out.

I noticed when I changed the shifters in my previous car, it wasnt much of a difference... but then I traded in my car, so I had to put everything back to stock.... and wow, with that stock shifter, it was so long, crappy and spongey! So I'll def. do a shifter in my new car.

I just put in a Steeda Tri-ax last night because I got sick of occasionally missing 3rd getting on it...It's stiffer than stock, but I really like the reduced range of motion required to shift.

My shifter was not that positive between the gates.

a shifter should always be spring loaded in the 3rd and 4th gate when in neutral. It provides natural motion over to third gear when coming out of second.

the stock shifter I could get to stick between 1,2 and 3,4 gate in neutral and coming out of second sometime just shifting normal I could grab the space between 1st and 3rd. I had better luck shifting it hard. my hurst you can't. when it is in neutral is basically in the 3rd and 4th gate. when you com outof secon it just goes into 3rd. a monkey could shift into 3rd and never miss.

I mean the stock shifter works but there are much better solutions. once you have driven a car with an aftermarket shifter you would ot want the stock one back.

the hurst is no louder than stock. I did retain the inner boot though.

I don't notice any extra transmission noise until I shut the car off...the exhaust pretty much drowns it out.

It's great, car breathes a lot better and I get blinded every time I pop the hood.

Gear whine/noise is minimal (I really don't know what all the fuss is about, and I honestly kinda like it...to a point - but it's not much, really)
I think the knob has a lot to do with the sound it generates. The OEM leather covered knob is quiet. Steeda makes an insulated one. I've got a fatknob on mine, love the classic look and awesome feel, but it's a bit noisy. But again, it's no big deal...and the Flows will cover most of it. Just realize that the OEM rubber insolators will be gone, which absorb the noise/vibration.

I love the noise of the tranny with an aftermarket shifter, i have to turn the radio off to hear it tho, its not very loud. Sometimes i drive all the way to work with no radio, windows rolled up b/c i love the sound (i need help, lol) It is a great mod, first thing i did.

you would shift quicker and be more consistant with the short through.

get the pro 5.0 I have the stock shift nob and no noise. The throws are so short , I love it!

I had the exact same problem, sometimes it would stick between gears. Not fun. I love my Tri-ax, its got a much shorter sweep, its adjustable, much stronger return spring, its just worth every penny spent. Definetly get it- it'll make your car feel more like a race car.
