I just got new $284 drag radials and I don't want my tread to burn out faster than it has to so I was thinking of getting another alignment (since it hasn't been done for about 2 years). Do I need a 2 wheel or 4 wheel alignment?

Mustangs with IRS need 4, solid axle needs 2...

Absolutely correct. You win a.....

you should get the alignment checked. it MAY not be out. you can get it checked for free and ask for a print out then PM me a copy of it. i'll let you know if you really need one or not. dont do it just b/c they say it is out. a lot of techs will do an alignment even if it isnt very far out.

if it has been 2 years i would get it checked. you should have your alignment checked every 6 months

6 months? thats kinda soon. alignments are on an 'as needed' basis. i havent had one on mine in just about 3 years and it was still tracking great, until i put on the rack bushings. plus, im willing to bet a large sum of money that if a shop spends the time to put her car on the alignment machine, set up the machine, slap on the heads, and measure caster, theyre going to tell her she needs an alignment. especially is its a female customer. it sucks, but the industry is very crooked.

to the original poster: you shouldnt need an alignment unless your steering wheel is crooked, your tires have been wearing badly in the past, or your car doesnt drive straight down the highway in the middle lane for 6-8 seconds after you take your hands off. thats my test. if it passes, i wont do an alignment on the car, and i'll tell the customer to stop worrying.

So far, my tires have been wearing evenly as far as I could tell :) then again... the female's eye could be wrong haha :rlaugh:

Ford dealers love taking advantage of the falsely-apparent fact that I don't know anything about cars :p
