do the March pulleys work better?

Im looking at pullies and I definetly think Im going with alum. pulleys because of the less rotating mass, but I saw an add for March pulleys claiming they add the most power, does anyone know if their pulleys are any better than some MAC/BBK or the ebay ones?

March makes good pulleys. I would buy them over BBK any day.

I have the BBK pulleys and like them, very good quality.

I don't see why one set of pulleys would get more HP than another.

I believe all the pullies are basically equal, the aluminum's are light than the steel and I think the March's add a little more bling IMO. Just be careful with the alternator pulley, as some have experienced charging probs.

I was told the BBK one's have the same underdrive as the march. I have BBK with no problems and still look great.

I know this argument comes up every once in a while, but I gained a SOLID 3 tenths and 3mph with my aluminum ASP pulleys, and that is a gain that I've seen few others get. Its not to say that the ASP's make more power, but I can assure you I'd never own any other set. I've had mine since at least '99 and they look as good as the day I got them. I even have the sliver anodized ones. ASP offers theirs in a few different colors as well.

Steel will rust... aluminum does not. For that reason alone I think the aluminum ones are the clear choice, but the added loss in mass is always great, especially when its at the front of the car and its rotating mass. I firmly believe that every little bit helps and its the little things that seperate the well performing combos from the middle of the pack ones.

I agree if you are planning to go all out to buy aluminum pullies. Every little bit counts. For me it is a street car, that I will probably only have 2-3 years max.

Remember that it is not the weight of the pullies but the moment of inertia differences that make the HP difference. With a maximum RPM of a stock motor of 5500 rpm or so there will be less than 1 hp or so between the two pullies. Clean powersteering fluid can account for more than this. So for the extra $20 I chose to save the money towards better mods.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the weight difference will net you close to zero gain. If you look at the weight of those and their rotational moment of inertia, the difference is going to be so relatively small I'd say it's negligible. The aluminum ones do look really nice though. If I were buying them I would go steel only becuase I don't care if they rust to all hell as long as they work.

i got the MAC steal ones cheap off ebay used. work great and i painted them to match everything else in my engine bay. I wanted blingy ones but the extra $ for the shine was't worth it for me

I have the March Alum. kit ( it has a fancy alt. pulley cover). I agree with Paul. There a soild performer! I also gain .3 and 2.4 mph in my 1/4 time. I went with the Alum. because of the F'ing great winters we have here in the northeast .. Alum will not rust ( unlike the rest of my car!

I have the BBK Aluminum ones, and they added a little horsepower, not really noticable.

I do have some charging problems though. Got a new battery and although you can see the volts drop when no on the throttle, it hasn't drained it any.

did you have any trouble bolting on your alt. pulley? i know that the march alt. pulley is a little thicker than the stockers so when i tried to thread the nut on with the split ring lock washer they gave me i can only get 1.5-2 threads on... what's the deal? (and this is the stock alt.) i chose to not use it just because i dont trust 2 threads holding my pulleys on, but it does look pretty good, it will add a little more power, and it's just a shame to not use a piece that probably cost me about 35-40 bucks alone.

I had the same problem... I said F the washer and used red Locktight. That dam washer almost cost me ( I about striped the nut trying to get that dam thing on there...

I left the alternator pulley off, I just didn't see that it would create much performance gain and I didn't want as severe charging issues (my lights do still dim a bit at idle because the crank pulley slows down the entire serpentine belt, thus reducing alternator output.)

Yep, I got that from someone here. I did not put on the matching alternator pulley b/c it is almost null gain and didn't want to be worried with charging probs.
