Do You Haul A Spare Tire?

I always kept basic tools with the car as well. Including a spare TFI and specific TFI bolt socket...because you never know.

Spare tire...yes, and up until recently, the stock scissor jack too. That was until it stripped and failed on me a few weeks ago when I was putting the car up to tighten my clutch cable. Threw that baby into the dumpster immediately.

Glad it slipped while I was jacking it up, rather than when I was under the car.

Gonna have to find me a nice bottle jack or something to replace it.

I carry one, but it's still the 4-lug stock one and I've had a 5-lug setup for nearly 8 years. Never had a flat w/the Stang in 12 years of ownership, and if I did I'd just call AAA as I would like to get my money's worth out of them. Saves gas, too

My car has ridden the tow truck more from mechanical/electrical failures than it has flat tires... SO even if I had a spare it wouldn't save me from the tow truck, haha. I have the same carpet board warpage you speak of, and I've been contemplating a fix myself. Good thread!

You should never be under a car that's supported by a jack, period. I had a buddy that was killed when his Mustang fell on him so I don't mess around with things like that. The car is on level ground with jack stands whenever I'm under it!

^This. I've had close calls in the past too. Now, I always use a jackstand as an extra measure of safety when using a jack.

Sheeeeit, I even have a 5-foot length of 1x1 with screw sticking out the side at one end so I can place and move the jackstands without getting under the car even for a second. I've had my car slip off a jack twice, and I'm not takin' any chances.

I had mine slip off the jack when I was sliding the jackstand out, ended up smashing the fuel lines.

I had a flat about two months after I did my 5 lug conversion. Me and my wife were going out to dinner so I pulled over got the "4 lug spare" out and got the jack out then the oh s**t factor hit. I looked at my prostar wheel then I looked at the spare. My wife looked at the spare then looked at me and we both busted out laughing.

Given that I use my fox for a DD, I have the factory spare and jack, one of those cheap floor jacks, a pair of jack stands, full socket set and other misc. tools in the back, along with a bunch of spare parts. I travel from my house back up to Maryland pretty often (300mi. journey) so I like to be prepared for anything.

Never had a AAA card, and really don't plan on it. Every car I've had was pretty much a project, and 9 out of 10 times I have been able to make my repairs on the side of the road when necessary (the one time I wasn't, I was able to get my dad to give me a tow). When I do have that major breakdown, I guarantee I will wish I had a AAA card.

I forget what the factory board is since I haven't seen mine in so long. Isn't it a type of POS particle board?
Why not substitute it with 1/4 plywood with little support braces going down into the spare tire wheel well?

I have AAA, but live in a Rural Area so cell phone coverage is very spotty at best, wouldnt drive without a spare.

What do the aluminum space-savers usually go for?

I saw one in my favorite junkyard the other day, but forgot to ask what they would want for it.
Maybe I should grab it?

I always keep a spare.
I have some spare spares too, 4 and 5 lug versions, never been on the ground.
I have a habit of taking them in if they are free/near free, and never been used... Mostly because of how many Fox/SN95 cars we have.

Oh, and the board used to cover the spare well is best described as "Masonite" and can be purchased raw, same as plywood.
