i seem to be having trouble getting my 60' times down. i'm sure with some more tuning i can lower the times, but i'm wondering if i'm shifting to 2nd gear before the 60'. best 60' today was 1.86

I bet you are with 4.30's on ET streets. I am close with 3.73's on Nitto's.

hahah this may sound lame but have someone stand at the 60' mark and watch, you could be hitting the clutch or going into 2nd at the 60; which will hurt it. I still think you are spinning because your car has a 12 in it.

i know somethings going on because i just can't seem to get my 60's below 1.8. WTF? i must be shifting before the 60', losing time, and that's why my 60's are not up to snuff. i can't think of anything else.

my best time was a 13.46@101 and my best 60' was 1.86. needless to say, i wasn't too pleased. i did not know that it was the opening day for maple and i can't see the track being up to par quite yet. hopefully things will improve as the year goes on. my tires just don't seem to be hitting very hard and sticking.

hopefully the loss in mph wasn't because of the new 27" slicks i put on, but because i was somewhere other than cecil. cecil is known to be a little bit quicker of a track than others.

MPH can drop with better traction even tho your ET drops.

i know. sorry, i should have specified that i was previously running 26x11.5 ET Streets but running throught the traps ~5800rpm, which i beleive is too much for my mods. now with the 27x10.5 i'm ending ~5500 rpm. i know i killed some of my gear ratio, because i can feel a little bit of a difference. but i'm not over-revving at the end. maybe i should have went back to the same track to really see what's going on. maybe this next friday

Hey what rim and backspacing are you using with those 27x10.5s. I need a taller and wider tire so let me know. Also, does it clear everything ok? My car is running 2.3 60 foots with 8.5/89mph times in the 1/8th. Darn 26x8.5 slicks are peeling out in 2 gears cause of 516 rwhp.

i'm running 15x8 w/5.5" BS. they clear everything with ease, but i don't have quad shocks.

only 89mph in the 1/8th with 516rwhp. are you spinning the whole way or what? if you're spinning with the slicks, i'm not sure the et streets are going to help you much unless you have your suspension set up good. probably better to step up to a bigger and wider full slick.

Axeman, weather and track prep will kill mph. I have even noticed a mph or two drop because of a headwind...

Also check the 26x11.5s, I believe they measure almost 27", they are definately taller then my 26x10.5s...

Shifting to second during the 60' should not hurt the 1/4 time.

i know, but i think something is wrong with my 60's. i am just trying to pinpoint the problem. according to a video of myself, it appears i am shifting before the 60' which will definatly effect my 60' times. maybe my 60' times aren't as bad as i thought if i figure in a loss for shifting.

on the other hand, when i went a couple of weeks ago i did have a 1.78 60' but i missed 2nd gear. so maybe my usual 60's do just plain old suck!

Do you power shift, I think I asked before but there is a tenth or two there (if your willing to do it). Also could be suspension issues. Is it tuned? Maybe head out and get it tuned on a dyno by a reputable shop and see if that helps. Personally the 60's might be because of the fact you shift, but I still agree, theres a 12, you just have to pinpoint it.

don't powershift, never have in this car. i don't have the money to replace the tranny. i know in a couple of my previous cars i could shift at a certain rpm without even using the clutch. i run a stock replacement clutch. maybe my bravery will arise one of these days.

it could be suspension issues. i mean christ, i was getting the same 60's with the stock control arms and crappy bushings. it is early in the year though, maybe it will get better. HOPEFULLY.

never had it dynoed. i thought about getting a dyno tune done sometime. could only help right?

some people tell me that i'm doing something right to get these times for my mods. i don't think they are too bad, but i can't help to think i'm doing something wrong for the times not to be lower yet.

Mark, I was able to get into the 1.60's on my ET STREETS with similar mods, however I had less gear (less torque multiplication at the tires) and the car left and dead hooked, how do you think I got those 12's with the stock motor.....all in the suspension getting every little hp to the ground.

I would guess you are shifting somewhere around the 60ft mark depending on where you launch and how the car hooks. How deep do you stage?

How's the car feel up top over 5000rpm, I would think the car is flat and that you are actually loosing a little ET with the lower gear, the tire helps but the dyno would tell the true story at how the car acts up top.

Your car is definately running strong for the mods, its the 60' that I am wondering on, as you are... I pulled a 1.72 with nothing more then the sway bar gone, and ET Streets. It might be the 60' isnt bad as you are shifting there, and the car just needs a tune. If you have an AFPR, I would say hit the dyno and get it tuned, like you said only thing that will hurt is your wallet...

Rick you make a good point, I was told by a friend who tried it, that Deep staging to shallow staging saw over a tenth difference in the 1/4 time. Whether this is true or not I have yet to try it out, but if so, I say stage as shallow as possible. Just flicker the stage light on and that allows the car to get a running start so to say!

My suggestion, tune it, wait for the better track prep (try an event, they usually prep well) and dont go easy on the car!

Yes I always shallowed staged, just enough to get the light on.

I say keep the right foot to the floor and just side step and stab the clutch, power shift it to hell and back and get a 12.

i'm not too familiar with shallow and deep staging. what i do is prestage, then pull up enough until the light comes on. i guess that means i'm already staging shallow right?

it seems to me that my car actually pulls pretty good over 5000rpm's.

what are you saying? launch of the limiter? i've never even had my car up to the limiter. i guess that would be a good way to tell if my tach is accurate huh?

rickki,
you think you'll make it down to the super stallions meet at cecil april 17th at all?

Yes you are shallow staging now...that's a good thing to do.

I use to launch at 5500rpm+, my right foot never left the floor board, I just stabbed the clutch and powershifted the car. You really don't want it on the limiter, that's a real bad thing with the stock ECU cutting fuel off at 6250rpm.

I didn't even know about the SSOTN meet, but I have way to much going on right now....

When power shifting, do I have to JAM the gear in with a grind or will it go right in?
