DO YOU THINK THIS IS AN "A" CODE

My 67 came with a 289 A code from the factory, power steering, 4 wheel drum. Someone changed it over to a 2bbl intake at some point, but the engine was a 4bbl motor. There is nothing out of the ordinary to have a 4bbl car with no power and 4 wheel drum.

the carb looks like a 2 barrel, it has drum brakes, no power anything

or am i wrong

An A code without the 4 barrel intake and carb is essentially a C code. The 2 and 4 barrel heads are identical. I would also be suspect of any classic that is outwardly clean, but is a mess under the hood. This indicates a quick cosmetic restoration. I'd be willing to bet that the Bondo is 1/4" thick on the lower quarters.

im just curious cuz i suposofely(sp? its late) have an "A" code. Are they worth that much compared to a "C" code? I bought mine for $1850 and a guy at a mustang place said it would go for $3500. it had a crappy interior, brakes so bad i had to get new rotors, and the engine barely ran. $3500?

chrua,
Right now the trend is to to modify so the value is not affected much today. But this trend could end or slowdown someday. Then your A-code with disc brakes could be worth significantly more than a C-code with disc conversion. Just a thought,

The carb has the vacuum advance port in the same location as my old two barrel and the same choke assembly if that helps.

-The tail light panel is damaged as well as the deck lid.

-The valve covers were painted while on the engine - there's blue paint on everything from the wires to the exhaust - just trying to dress up a bagged motor

-The driver's side frame rail looks wrinkly and the strut rod brace looks cracked. The passenger strut rod brace was bent in. These things make appear to have had front driver's side collision at some time.

-I don't know why the fuel line goes from the fuel pump to inside the fender.

-The entire underside is undercoated including the shocks and springs.

All in all the car looks "Good from far, far from good."

id be willing to bet thats not the original motor....A-code's did have a better compression ratio than C-code's....that ignition coil isnt located where they normally are...on top of the manifold....but i guess you can place that anywhere you want....the blue valve covers on a 65 car that is supposed to have gold valve covers makes me think the guy knows nothing about mustangs...

Heck, look at the lower rear lip of the deck lid....yeah, that car is a basket case. The door alignment scares me. Quick note, the coil is where its supposed to be unless they did it differnt on 65-66s. Also, no lock in the drivers side door?

The A/C engine is the same except for the manifold/carb, you are correct. But what makes that car an A-code versus a C-code is the VIN not the induction :D

I agree with your assesment on the appearance of the body/paint versus the engine too. Heavy undercoating sets off rust alarms for me.

Of course my car is getting the engine/drivetrain beautified but the body needs a lot of work.

Wasnt there a difference in flat vs dish pistons too?
