i have a set of DO0E heads to put on my 289 and when i took them to the machine shop today the guy was telling me all the work involved to make them work well with my motor. then he tells me about a set of 289 heads the were left there and never picked up. says they are ported to the absolute max and were done for a customer who was gonna be running a stock eliminator class. exhaust ports alone are about twice the size of the ports on the DO0E heads. since they've been sitting there for a while he's willing to sell them to me completely bare for $250..so do you think it would better for performance to just get the DO0E's worked or get valves, springs, and rockers for the 289 heads for about the same price

It will be cheaper to get those 289 heads and stick them on the motor. I think the 351 heads have more meat and can be ported more but the problem is it will cost a lot more too.

i agree with DH. make a low ball offer on the ported heads, and be prepared to walk away if he says no. as for the 351w heads, save them for a 351w build, or sell them to someone else.

thanks for the help in the decision making guys..i decided i'm gonna go with the ported heads..i stoppped by the shop today and looked at them and the port work is awesome..so they're putting in bigger valves and all that good stuff for me too..hopefully it'll be a good combo with the rpm cam and intake i just bought
