Yep, can clearly see hwere the leak was at. You removed all that without taking off the strut tower bar? Why didnt you remove it, id imagine getting the covers off would been a whole lot easier

What do you think of chrome? These are Holley covers and definetely fit. And are like $80. Perhaps I'll stick with a set of chrome like this, or just have the guy powdercoat the ones I have. Save some money that way that I could use on other mods.

I personally am not a fan of chrome/stamped steel valve covers. I am of the opinion that they flex around the bolt holes and cause leaks over time.While this is just an opinion, a cast aluminum valve cover such as the ones I purchased are much less likely to flex.

Well I was going to remove the STB but its bolted through with nuts on the inside....so that would have meant the tires, inner fender wells, and who knows what else. Only thing that was tight was the upper intake, the rest wasn't too bad. Its actually come in handy being able to lean directly on it while scraping gasket remnants and stuff.

Oooh good point. I was even thinking about the strength of it.

That's it, I think for now I'll just keep mine which are pretty tough and just have them coated since it seems like that won't cost too much.

If you do end up deciding to switch, these should clear your rockers..

Cheaper than(but yet the same thing as) Trick flow covers, and they'd go better with a holley head. $49.50 for the pair, and another 20 or 30 for an oil fill kit.

Those aren't bad for the price.

Well I have discovered that my current VC's are polymer lightweight Hartman covers, sold thru Comp Cams. Well they were at least.

From what I've been reading, they can't be powdered.

I would avoid powdercoating a plastic anything considering it has to be baked on..

Yeah I know. This guy says he has done plastic valve covers from newer models before. I actually have an extra brand new VC that came with the car. Thinking I may let him try it on an older one and if it wrecks it, I have the new replacement for one.

Not as dark as all black would be, but I think it will be unique and sweet! The guy gave me an old stocker VC to see if it will fit. Found out I have 1.7 rockers so it might be close. If they fit, I'll be buying the exact ones pictured for $45. Can't beat that!!!!

Some pics to follow of the other detailing I've done so far. Not much yet, I find that the more I drink and try to work, the less work I get done.

Next Sat the car will be back together and fresher! Also have new tires coming, and a battery shutoff switch to make me track legal.

Current VC's.....if the stockers won't fit. He's gonna try to powder one of these. They're composite, but he thinks he can bake em slowly at low temps and make em work. He's done plastic newer covers and they came out great.

Heater hoses after some cleaning....a few scratches but looks better than it did!

Fuel rail after some cleaning.....steel wooling...and polishing. Again not perfect but its way better than it was.

Little touches here and there, and some paint and powder coat will go a long way.

I wish I woldn't have just slapped together my 91 black notchback, I wish I would have taken my time and paint the block, heads, intake, valve covers, timing covers, brackets....but it doesn't matter now, car's gone.

Yeah....I'm trying to clean up my current parts as best as possible. Once the stuff is back together I will go back and touch up all the bolts and whatnot with some model paint. Its just so damn cold I can't pull her out to really degrease or anything yet. We go from 60 to 20 degrees still.

I've gotten in there with Q-tips and cleaner just to get under bolts and stuff. Then I'll touch up bolt heads with paint. I'm not looking for a show car cuz mine is a driver, but hopefully it'll look a lot cleaner.

Maybe I'll even win FOTM one day.

Paint the bracket for that thing by the vaccumme tree and also find a cover for the wiper motor.

Also, remove the freaking hood prop since you have hood struts ya n00b!

Oh yeah, with the mods your car has and the fact that it runs funky did ya ever think that mabey you should get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Damn you!!! Systemax intakes look baaaad ass black with the logo and fins polished. I think powdercoating is waayyy overrated. I work on Harleys for a living so I deal with it A LOT and it doesn't seem to hold up very well. The name coating describes it very well. It doesn't seem to stick. It doesn't bond to the metal like a paint, it just kinda lays on top and seems to chip off pretty easily.

I LOVE 500 degree engine spray paint. Like 25th said the 1200 degree stuff seems to fade. The 500 has a different kind of nozzle and goes on awesome. It also seems to keep its color really well.

Here's a picture of my intake with that paint. Total cost, $5.89 plus tax...

Look closer ya newb at the fuel rails....duh.

The rest will get cleaned or painted. If I can take it off easy I'll spray it, if not it'll get touched by hand. Remember its 32 degrees here and impossible to spray paint with my garage already full of a Fox and boat.

Oh, but we did pull the fuel rails and realized the regulator was opened wide up.

Damn man you too late! Yeah my first thought was black with the fins polished. But I thought a lot about it, many nights lost sleep lately.

Figured since I have all black, some dark grey is gonna look badass. Oh....did I mention the fins and logo are getting taped off and he's gonna polish the original alumimummmujmjum and then clearcoat it all?

Maybe that'll help?

Either way. You guys might not like it, but I think a black bay with dark gray parts is gonna look awesome, and unique!

BTW....that looks awesome!!! And I debated painting myself, but everything I read said its still gotta be baked in an oven to cure right? The wife nixed the idea of using our kitchen oven.
