Does anybody elses calipers "clack" ?

Hey my mustang is the only one out of all my friends that the calipers make a "clacking" noise when you go over a bump. :bs: It does it especially bad when I drive down main street of my town where the 18 wheelers have made a rut in the road. But anyway my dad said it has done it since he bought the car back in 1993, and he said it probly has something to do with a "floating caliper"??? But if it doesnt how can I fix this and does anybody elses do this? Thanks in advance..........oh by the way its a 1991 lx coupe... if it makes any difference. :nice:

It's not the calipers so much as it’s the pads.

Your pads have some free play and likely make noise when backing up and applying the brakes too..

Its not a big deal and does not cause any problems..

There are things you can do to fix it but since I just got back from lunch and am about to fall asleep on my keyboard I can't remember the exact configuration of those clips... It will come to me I am sure...

Been there.

It's the pads. Some brands have looser tolerances when it comes to the holes the calipers slide pins slide through. Apparently one of the major brands (i beleive whatever is sold at autozone) is so loose it clacks over bumps. I've had a few friends with this problem. On two of the cars, the pads were red colored. We changed to a different brand of pad and it worked
