Does anyone make a better carpet than ACC?

I would really like to put loop carpet in the car like the older muscle cars but can't find it for our cars.

The last ACC carpet was a PITA to install. Plus it didn't really smooth out around the contours.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am only aware of ACC, not sure of anyone else that may be better. If you do decide to go with ACC, a loop style carpet will have to be special ordered, which means no returns if you don't like it. I have installed a few carpets in the past, and used a Jiffy steamer. It is a garment steamer, and it helps to soften the backing of the carpet to help it lay down better.

Hope this helps. I'm sure if there is a better carpet out there, someone here will let you know.

I like the steamer idea! But won't it upset the glue seeting?

I have never had any problems with it. I lay the carpet out in the sun for a while to get more pliable before installation. I then install the carpet in the vehicle, and go to the areas that need to lay down better, and apply the steam to the face of the carpet, not the backing. You want to stay back a few inches, and don't leave it in one spot too long.

I was just flipping through a Mustang Monthly had had an article about new carpet in a '65 and i was looking at it wishing we had a 2 piece carpet option like those cars have. As for the ACC carpet, you've gotta let it lay in the sun on a hot day for a few hours and that helps to get it installed smooth.

July 2008 issue of 5.0 mustang they have a nice two piece carpet install using a company chicane Sport tuning.

It is low nap and really nice. too bad whenI go to their website they mention nothing about it.

Why don't you take a look at the MASS carpets from 5.0 Resto (they have extra padding for noise reduction). I've heard plenty of good comments from those. I'm actually saving up to get one and change my porno red carpet for a black one. :D

i just ordered the mass backed carpet from LMR yesterday, dude on the phone said i should have it tomorrow but it will be a few weeks probably before i install it.

I did my floors and firewall with dynamat si i don't need the mass back. but, that carpet is still made by ACC and i don't like it at all. It's too shaggy and a pita to install.

I will probably order loop carpet in a general dimension and have a custom install. IMO, the older muscle car loop carpet looks killer when done right.

New OEM is impossible to find. junkyard carpets in good condition would be even more impossible to find. Been there, done that..

I just got a used OEM black carpet for a hatch from Jim at PPI. It was in very good condition. Of course it wasn't cheap.

I just bought new aftermarket carpet and went through hell putting it in. I own a steam cleaner and I have almost non-stop access to very bright sunlight. I couldn't get it to fit flat under the pedals which is the one place I need it to lay flat. I ended up pulling the aftermarket carpet out and was considering painting the floor black when I made some phone calls and found the OEM black carpet.
