Ok, this is something Ive been thinking about doing but finally might actually do it. I have a shift light on my a-pillar, but I want to take it off of there, and take the bulb out, then hook up an LED to it that I got from the parts store and put the shift light itself under the dash out of sight and drill a hole somewhere and put the LED coming out there. I was thinking on the clock face all the way to the drivers side of the clock. It should work right?

As stated above, I just hid mine in the A/C vent.

What you want to do is not hard at all. Just have to measure the output voltage that activates the light, and use resistors on the diode(LED) that you chose. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think a 3V LED takes a 240ohm resistor on the positive side to make it accept 12v without smoking instantly.

Otherwise, you have a great idea which should cost less than 5 bucks if you already have the shiftlight.

Let us know how it turns out, I am interested.

Your typical cheapo LED's can't handle more than 1.5 volts usually, so make sure you do your math first and check it out with a multimeter before hooking them up. Other than that, it should work fine and be way cooler than those old fashion bulbs.
