Does the 17X10.5 Rim Need a Spacer?

My buddy is buying a set of 17X10.5 Rims for the back of his 2001 GT.

Does his 17X10.5 need a wheel spacer?

Nope. Everything should be perfect, so long as he has the right backspacing on the rims. What wheels are they? If they are some random brand 10.5" rims, they might have a weird backspacing.
