Does this headgasket look blown to you? Just pulled the head off (PICS)

What about some oil?
Probably wouldn't hurt.

Think about this....

What are you going to do if the oil doesn't leak back into the pan (i.e. you have very good sealing)? It will move through the ring gaps, but that could take a month of Sundays.

If you do try it....

It may smoke a little when you start it off from the little bit of excess oil on the piston tops.

Clean the deck and get a straightedge metal ruler. Put the edge across the deck with a piece of paper b/t it. press down on the ruler and try to slide the paper around. It shouldn't move. That's only a quick garage way to check it by no means the most accurate/precise procedure.
this might get you by, but instead of paper use a set of feeler gauges and start out with smaller and go bigger until it does not fit then that is how many thousands your surface is warped. do it on your head first and do it in 3 diff rows or 7 if you want. lay it straight across the head at the top closer to thintake port, make your measurements with the feeler guage then slide the straight edge down to the middle of the comb chamber then down the bottom side of the head. you can also make diagonal measurements if you want, but not absolutely nes. all of this is extremely irrevlevant if you do not have a true straight edge as your specs are usually in the .007 range and a slightly warped edge can give you irroneous readings. or you could just cart the head to a machine shop and have them straight edge it, they will most likely have a better straight edge.

Ok guys I dont know what to do now. Here are 2 things I thought of doing.

1. My freind blew 3 of his pistons in his 95 Cobra. We live like 4 blocks away from each other and he has Cometic gaskets. I was thinking, since hes not using his gaskets and they are re-usable, I could take one of his gaskets, put it on my car, put my stock head back on and then do a leakdown test again to see if that changes anything.I would yellow95cboras studs and stuff. If that doesnt change anything then I can do # 2.

#2. Since I pretty much have my mind set on installing some new heads and a cam while this is going on, I could pull my engine, check my #8 piston and if its messed up I would know if not, my engine would be out and it would be really easy to install a cam since its not in the car. If it is messed up, I can find a used shortblock for cheap and swap that in since my other one is already out.

What else could I do? I really need to get going here as I am leaving for france for vacation in 3-4 weeks and then going to college in like 3-4 weeks after that.

Top of the gasket looks questionable to me. If this is the cylinder you had low compression in, i'd say something was up with the gasket. It's not blown, but was the deck warped?

I agree with BigJay and Yellow.
If you want to compare what a blown HG looks like let me try and find my old pics from last year when I went through 2 sets before getting to the dyno. :D
Your hgs look good to me as well as your 11yr old stock pistons. :nice:
Pull the other head and get the ARPS and all the other essentials to do the job right and put it all back together. Worse case scenario is it has another problem again and you at least know you did the job correct you can then narrow it down to the cause. I think your car is fine if you just do that. I shaved the heads on the first time install and then after the last 2 I was so pissed to have to do it all over again I just threw them back on and I haven't had a problem since last summer with the hgs. That was with 12#'s of boost on the S-Trim with n2o and methanol. 10#'s with the KB with methanol and now 9#'s with this t-66.
And remember I'm totally internally stock still. I had some blow by but used breathers and capped the barb on the vc (I used to find my dipstick 1/2 out and smoking) and make sure your torque sequence is correct and I torque the intake in 5-8# increments until I get to 25-28#'s going through the sequence several times. They tend to loosen after a while so re-torque them (gently).

Heres one of mine LOL. I think i blew the hg's in 4 diff cylinders lol.

Blue- if it was me, i would go get one hg for 25 bucks, take my studs(ill go check to make sure i have them today) and put her back together. Run a c/r test on that side when its together and see what happens.

From what ive read about the cometics, is they are not to good when putting on a stock non resurfaced block...

You sure lettign water drip into my oil pan and such is a good idea?? Ill try that if you say so.

If you feel better with oil, then try that. It's a simple test, and it may not reveal anything.

You have water/coolant in the cylinders anyway, wouldn't really matter. Just note the fluid level before, and after. Give it some time.

I imagine there is a better way of testing them, but I wouldn't have a clue.

To check to see if the deck is warped, you put a straight edge on the deck, and use a feeler gauge to see if it will go inbetween the deck and the straight edge.

Cornwell sells one if you need to buy it. I don't know where you could rent it. You would have better luck borrowing one from a machine shop. It's critical that the straight edge is perfectly straight, so you don't want to use a cheapo tool.
