well, needless to say i forgot to tell the guy not to cut the X when he took out the tremec i got today... he cut it off.

does the material look weldable? it's part # 5094-3 (5094-2 is the off-road) from Bassani, and he cut the cats off.

i'd really like to use this w/ my setup (mac shorties, P specific--good deal off ebay, and flows.)

on a side note, the guy thought it was just a t5 and didn't realize it was a tr3550. didn't realize the d/s was aluminum and also didn't realize the midpipe was a $500 bassani X!!!!!!@##@!$!!111one11!!

Looks like there's metal enough there to join.

Should be good to go, looks like mainly surface rust. Sand it down some and give 'er a good spraying of exhaust enamel paint before putting it on the car though. Should last a long time.

I'd be looking for a new mechanic in the future if he didn't know all of that!

The bassani's are stainless steel which can be welded, so you should be OK.

If you stick a magnet to it and it sticks well, then it's iron bases (some alloy of steel) and you can weld on it. Just keep the voltage and wire speed down so you don't burn through. I would tack weld it, top, bottom, left side, right side, etc etc until the seam is complete. This will help distribute the heat to stop burning though as well.
