Doh..! Over revved it...

Yeah, I was out testing the new X pipe and I got a little happy and missed a shift going into 2nd.

Good news, I caught it before it grinded...

Bad news, the tach read about 6200 RPM...

How bad is that for the engine? I know its not good to be up there, I usually shift about 5500 if im racing... I thought it would have hit the rev limiter...?

I felt like I was driving a 4v for a minute though, hahaha.

I've pegged the rev limiter a couple of times and the car hasnt blown up yet *knocks on wood*. The only time you should worry is if your oil level is low, that is when spinning rod bearings becomes an issue..

How high do y'all think we'd have to take our engines to get valve float?

I shift at 6000-61000 at the track. Motors fine, even with boost.

Thats exactly what I was wondering too. Its got 100k on it and it doesnt need any more abuse than I normally throw at it, lol. I think ive heard they start in the mid 6k range, between 63-6500 but im not sure. Actually, im not sure enough to even say that...

Checked oil before I left, it was pretty much full.

In mine when you mash the pedal to the floor it doesn't shift til 6-6100. You'd think if they have the car set to shift at that level stock that hitting that wouldn't be TOO big of an issue with the proper lubrication.

6000rpm shifts here with boost....accidently over-rev'd when I first got the car years ago (6500rpms I believe) and everything is still working great.

I downshift too fast every now and then I've dropped from 80+mph in 3rd to 2nd at the track... Peg the rev limmiter all the time...

No real issues at least not that I can hear over my loud ass ticking injectors.

Your rev limiter would catch it long before that happened....unless you did something stupid like downshift from 4th to 1st by accident.

One more reason I love my auto.

I know the limiter would stop it way before I got float..I'm just saying, without the rev limiter..I'm thinkin about 7k?

I just did the same thing at the track this last weekend. 3rd to 2nd at around 70mph.....over-revved, bounced off the limiter once or twice, and threw a serpentine belt, didn't blow anything up though so its all good

ahh, thats fine. I've revved my old gt over 6500 before. no biggy. just don't do it 20 times a day.

I had a bad tune once and my car was shifting at 6500rpm WOT! I got a new tune quick but no harm done.

Mine seen 6200RPM shifts for about 25000 miles...ZERO problems. Your car will be fine.

stock valve springs are good for about 6500, that's what someone at VT told me .

I personally have the stage 10 manley crower super beehive valve springs, stage 10 VD cams (not to be mistekn for VT), along with a 50 angle port job on my p-99 intake and shift at 23,000 no problem.

I've hit my rev limiter like everyday for a month after I put my gears in. The car was so different compared to what it was like with the 3.27s. Every time I got to stop for a light or something, I was thrilled. The lady at the drvethrough at Wendy's was like "Noone has ever gotten to me so quickly from the order speaker before!"

Doh..! Over revved it...
