Doing 5.0 swap in the Fox

I have a 1991 Mustang LX that I just got done doing all the cosmetic repairs on. I am looking for a 5.0 Mustang parts car for my swap. I stumbled across and 87 Mustang GT for like $500 bucks, it runs and everything. I need to know if the 87 GT was carbed or Fuel injected and would this model be a reasonable Mustang to use for my swap.

You will have to excuse me, I really don't work on very many American cars, all the cars I own are Ricers, so I'm a little new to the whole swapping system here.

why convert it to 5.slow? go 347stroker or throw a stroked 351 in it .
does the 87 have a good rearend,motor/trans?is it 5spd? how many miles? does yours have a good interior ? does the 87 have a good interior? you are going to want aftermarket suspension stuff like UCA's & LCA's shocks/struts/springs/brakes. also subframe connectors ect....... anyway. if all you want is a 5.0 then it's not really worth the time, effort & $$$$ as in semi stock form they are not that fast.
to answer your ? the 87 is fuel injected. 87-93 are effectively the same parts wise. dash&computer wiring are a little different but can be overcome & if you go carbed then the wiring differences become obsolete.

My mustang is cosmetically and internally in what I would consider good condition, with the exception of the driver seat and driver door panel. The only reason I want to drop a 5.0 into my mustang is pretty much for the little increase in power, and that wonderful growl that they create. And also the fact that all of my vehicles are 4 cyl ricers, I want an American muscle car as well to add to my collection.
anyways, on the 87 mustang that I spoke of, it is a seized vehicle from a drug deal gone bad appearently, and they have sent to a fairly local junkyard. the junkyard foreman to me that it runs, although the guy told me that I may not be able to drive it home. the 87 mustang is an automatic vehicle and mine is a 5 spd, so of course there are some issues that need to be adressed there. pretty much my plan is to maybe purchase this vehicle, get as many usable parts from it such as engine, rear end, suspension, maybe some interior components; then, sell whatever else i can before mom tells me to scrap it.
I pretty much just wanted to know if that setup minus the transmission, would work out in my 91 mustang, with little to no modifications.

Piece of cake with a donor car sitting right there. You're on the right track. The drivetrain, suspension, motormounts, raidator, engine wiring harness and all is about all you need. I would highly reccomend getting computer,intake and all off a 89-93 gt though for the Mass air flow setup as the 87 is for sure speed density.

Do you plan on keeping the car speed density or going mass air? Regardless, an 87 engine harness is not compatible with a 91. However, if you bought that donor car, most of what you would need will be there. If you were to get a a9l and a 91 harness, it would be plug and play. Since your 4 cyl isn't a 5 speed, you should get a t5 out of a 5.0. IIRC, the 4 cylinder also has a 7.5 rear, not a 8.8. Use the one out of your swap car. If you end up using an automatic computer in your 5 speed car, there is also a wire in the O2 harness that needs to be switched. It's easy. It's the harness under the mass air filter and you will see where it loops. The loop needs to move from one pin to the open hole. Harder to explain than it is to see. It's only necessary if you get a mass air automatic computer(A9P)

You will need to swap over the Wiring Harness from whatever motor you plan on using...so If you plan on using the 87 motor, but get the mass air out of a 89-93 car, you would want to use the 89-93 wiring...if you use the 87 motor and keep speed density, then you will need the wiring harness out of that car. Be sure to swap out the rear end from that car as well as the transmission.

An 87 engine harness will not match up. If he goes that route, he will need to change his dash harness too. It will look like it will until he gets to the 2 connectors near the master cylinder and finds that the 91 harness only has one connector.

I may have mis-phrased my statement earlier, my 4 cyl is a 5 spd and the donor car is an auto, thanks for the info, going off of what I am hearing it would be easier to just find a newer car, and just drop the 87.

people I'm sure will disagree, but you can do all the mods you wamt with a speed density car, throw on a megasquirt....and not spend all the money on a mass air conversion and getting new tunes everytime you add something.....if you are willing to study lol.
