Doing a brake job tomorrow.. need a little help

Alright, I did the front brakes a little while back and for some reason the damn pads are already squeeking. It was only like 3 weeks ago... but anyways, they are still pretty crappy so I am going to do the rear brakes.

I was wondering how much rear brake drums cost? I have the shoes for the back... is there anything else I am going to need? I hate doing rear brakes... anybody have any pointers? I am going to do one side at a time so I have a reference for the other side. But any help would be great.

drums arent that expensive....dont know exactly how much...but you can look it up at www.partsamerica.com if you have an advance auto around you. just take your time and remember where all the little things go. i agree i hate doing drum brakes

No real tips besides doing 1 side at a time, I just never really had a problem with them on my stangs... on a Mitsubishi I used to have = hell.

looks like 25 bucks a piece... I was hoping a little cheaper... do you guys think I will have to replace them? How many times can you grind them down?

I did my rear brake shoes 2 weeks ago and its a pretty simple straight forward job. Not that difficult. Just do one side at a time to have reference in case you dont know where things go. My brake shoes were the stock ones so I took my drums to get turned for $6 each. The parts really dont wear out so the only thing you might need is high temperature grease to put on the contact points, some brake cleaner to avoid dust.

No big deal with it, except be careful and put the shoes back in the right place, as there is a primary and secondary, and put the self adjuster screw back in the right way.

It is easier to put the springs back in with a cheap brake tool. I also made a hook tool from heavy wire to pull the lower spring and adjuster cable parts back in place with.

Last few times, I have just bought new drums or rotors and shoes or pads. Did the rear rotors, pads and ebrake shoes on my 96 Explorer, lock stock and barrel for $92 total last Sat, with Carquest parts.

Yeah there is a primary and secondary shoe so be careful. You don't wanna put them the wrong way and have to disassemble everything twice, it can be a pain.

also check for leaking or frozen wheel cylinders.don't overlook the spring hardware either.they get weak over time and you won't realize it until they break.
