Well i just signed up for the army yesterday and i leave for basic on jan. 27th. And last week i overheated my car and blew a headgasket. Well i need somethin reliable and a 95 just isnt going to be reliable enough. But i would like a sports car(preferably rear wheel drive) that I wouldnt care if i drove it through the snow, so that way i can go to open track events. Any ideas?

what kind of price range are you looking at? Saying a 95 is not reliable is a pretty broad statement.

You want a daily driver that you can also take on road courses? Sounds like you need to look into German cars like bmw, audi, vw

A 95 STANG can be made reliable for sure. i dont drive mine daily but wouldnt think twice about driving to new york if i wanted. the key to keeping these things reliable is maintence as with any other car

Well I was thinking around 15 i thought about a 350z or a sti. And im sure i could make mine reliable but it needs a lot of stuff plus the engine has a lot of miles and i drive it pretty hard even tho it sounded healthy. I would think german cars would be expensive to fix.

STI's would be great for winter play and track. But i really haven't seen any around 15 or lower. 95's can be very reliable. Mine has almost 200000 on the clock and i haven't had anything go wrong with it.. Like said above, the care of the car is very important. Also driving habits cause a lot of wear on an older car that probably hasn't had a fresh rebuild. Driving it hard and it not being a fresh rebuild, is looking for trouble. Don't get me wrong, I love getting on mine as much as the next guy, but i am waiting to rebuild it next month so i don't do it that often.

You didn't say where you're going to be stationed for your first permanent assignment. You're 30 days away from not needing a car for the next 4 months or more. Then, depending on where they send you, you could be another 15 months or so without needing a car, and an opportunity to save $$ (while you're deployed).

My advice: Fix your head gasket, keep the 95 or sell it, but wait until you're done with AIT, at your permanent duty station, and know what your deployment schedule looks like, THEN start thinking about what your next car should be.

That's what I did, 25 years ago, when I joined the Army.
