Don't Let Idiots Driver Your Mustang

Don't Let Idiots Drive Your Mustang

Today after work I let a friend of mine, who claimed he knew how to drive a stick, drive my car. By the third stop light we pull up next to a riced out Eclipse. I give him the go-ahead to race him and he launches good, shifts at about 5k, and next thing I know he is grinding the **** out of 2nd. It seems that he didn't push the clutch all the way in before he shifted and he tried to push the stick into gear for like 3 seconds while pumping the clutch. You guys think he screwed anything up? It grinded pretty loud, but I drove it after him and it seemed to shift ok except 2nd gear seemed a little more notchy than usual. I hammered it in 2nd and it didn't pop out of gear so I hope it'll be alright. That's the last time anyone drives my car but me. :bang:

Oh man...the nerve of that guy. :nonono: Man, I feel for ya and your car, believe me. I know apologies won't fix the gears but did he at least apologize?

I don't let anyone drive my stang unless I know for a fact that they know how to drive a stick. No learning allowed on my car. It already had one student abuse it enough (me).

I hate how everyone asks to drive my car..

I never ask to drive anyone's car, you should be OFFERED to drive, you shouldn't be a jew and ask.

i agree with everything....except maybe the jew part :nonono: but yeah, i never let people drive my car. as for racing, HEEEEEEEEECK NOOOOOO!! driving a car is one thing, but racing is another. i drove my friend's 04 TT about a month ago, and i did fine. didnt stall once. however, when i tried launching and shifting fast, thats another story. im used to the stang shifter being angled toward the driver, so when i pulled back to 2nd, i instinctivly pulled toward me a little too. i ended up missing 2nd, but not grinding (thank goodness b/c he would have had my head for grinding gears in his brand new car w/ only 1500 miles on it.) it just stayed in nuetral and revved. needless to say, that was the last time i tried to race his car, and now im dead set that no one drives my car, let alone race it.

He was cool about it and apologized, but it still sucks. It was partly my fault for letting him race the Eclipse, but he seemed to know what he was doing. He had been asking me for like 2 weeks and he said he used to have a 5spd Jeep so I let him take it around the block, but trust me that is the last time anyone I don't completely know and trust is getting behind the wheel. You guys think he messed it up though?

That was the funny thing, the Eclipse gunned it off the line and turned into a McDonalds while my friend is shooting gear teeth out the back. I just got back from driving it again and I think its good. If it does blow out 2nd, it just gives me an excuse to get a TKO. It's the first time the tranny has been "abused" but the 3650 seems like it can take a beating.

chances are, yeah, he put some wear and tear on it, but nah, it highly doubtfully 'broke' anything. Every time you hit the clutch you're putting a LITTLE wear on it. i really wouldnt worry about it at all.

I was more worried when i was driving late at night in a K-mart parking lot, like 4am, i was doing a short cut through an intersection with a long light. Of course no one was there, so i was gunning about 35mph, and my front right tire got the balls smashed out of it, by a HORRIBLY placed "parking spot bump". you know, when you park at a wawa or something, there's one of those long cement rectangular blocks to stop you from going to far forward? yeah, I smacked that. MAJOR dent in my rim, didnt blow the tire out (GOT REALLY LUCKY), but the wheel cannot balance or align now, it's that trashed. I've put about 8 thousand miles on it too since it happened, :rlaugh:

i'll replace it when i put my 8.5 fronts and 10.5 rears chrome bullitts on though. probably later this month.

That sucks man, but the bullitts will look badass. The third day I had my Z71 I went to have the exhaust put on, or cut off I should say, a cement parking stopper jumped out of the road and bent the **** out of my rim. :bang: Those things seem to come out of nowhere.

exactly. i was driving in a striaght line across the lot, and that stopper i hit, was the ONLY one in a horizontal line across the lot. Which gave me a chance to pick up some speed before i whacked it. :fuss:

yeah man, check it out

that's a 17x10.5 bullitt wheel. Deep dish chrome. Very very cool. :nice:

Back on topic. You don't have any real damage to your tranny or clutch. I've grinded 2nd more time than I can count under heavy running and I haven't had a problem (yet) so one time isn't going to hurt.

Problem with someone else driving your car is that they may know how to drive a stick but it takes time to get used to each car. My dad has a C5 and under normal shifting I can't find 3rd without some difficulty for a few runs through the gears. There are even differences from Mustang to Mustang. So a leisurely trot...OK...but not a full gallop.
