Door Frame/body Mod?

So just curious, I have a hatch and I'm really tired of the poor seal and misalignment issues of my doors where the frame goes around the window. I know new seals would help, but has anyone ever modified their hatch/coupe to with the convertible doors, so the window sits up without a frame? Like the '94 and up coupes?

Are you the first owner of this car? Have you thought about the fact that the car may have been wrecked before you got it?

New door weather stripping is available through www.latemodelrestoration.com, or www.npdlink.com or many of the other Mustang parts houses.

Can you lift up on the rear edge of the door and see movement? If so, you may have worn door hinge pin bushings. If the bushings are worn enough, they will affect the ability of the doors to compress the seals enough to seal properly.

Thank you!

One problem is that there are no bushings on the pins, and that will be addressed very soon. It very well could help the sealing problem.

But my question is more of preference. I would prefer to have no window frames. If I could get a mold or at least pictures of the contours of a T-top sealing surfaces, I could modify the hardtop to mimic them, and the glass wouldn't need a frame to seal. I think this would be a great mod, clean up the lines and just look better. I was just wondering if anyone has attempted this.

Short answer...no it cannot be done.

Long answer....convertible glass prob won't work. The closest you would get is using 1988+ convertible doors (1987 has the hatch style mirrors) with 1988 T-tops glass. Even then, you'll have to fabricate new seals at the top of the door as the hatch was never designed to take a frameless window.
