ive been tryin to get these things out for a while and could use some help. Who knows how to remove these factory speakers? im plannin on aftermarkets too and am wondering what u guys use. please help me out!!!

Dont pry on the grill. You will pop it off the door panel and you wont be able to get it back on. It has plastic studs that are melted to the back of the door panel. It only takes about 5 minutes to remove the door panel anyway.
remove the phillips screw at the front and rear of the arm rest, pop out the 2 plastic plugs and remove the lagger screws under and then remove the screw holding in the window and lock switches. Work the switch plate through the opening in the arm rest and lift the arm rest off the panel. Remove the little triangle piece up where the mirror is and then the plastic cup around the door handle. There is one screw also at the bottom of the speaker grill, dont forget that one. Then just use a panel popper or your fingers if you dont have a popper, and work your way around the back of the panel pulling the plastic clips out of the sheetmetal. Once those are free it will lift right up and off. Its less work than it looks like.
You may not even have speakers in the doos, some LX's do and some dont depending on what stereo it came with. Once the panel is off the rest is self explanitory.
I have done many speaker installations in mustangs and the only speaker I have found to this day that is a drop in install and will fit under the factory grill is the Infinity reference 6.5's, The shallow mount ones. As big as mustang doors are, there is less than 2" mounting depth and the hole is a goofball size. Its not a 5.25" or 6.5", more like a 6" than anything. If you dont mind trimming metal and your speaker grills or building custom pods or buildouts then your options are pretty unlimited. But since you wanted to pry your speakers off I assume you arent wanting to go through that much trouble.
Another thing I just thought about...Two of the LX's I have didnt have speakers in the door from the factory and there were no wires for them either. If you have one without the factory speakers, you will have to run wires through the rubber boots in the door jam. It can be a pain in the ass and will be the most time consuming part of the whole deal. Also...dont bother with the dash speakers, just unhook or remove them altogether after you install decent door speakers. Trust me, it will sound better without them.

I put some 4 way pioneers in my doors and they fit perfect, they are not too deep either. As for the dash speakers.. i wholeheartedly disagree. The door speakers will lose most of their clarity being mounted so low, the do make nice midbass though, I replaced my dash speakers with a set of Infinity Kappas and wired the door and dash speakers together using some passive adjustable crossovers. The sound is FAR better then with door (or dash) speakers by themselves. I did some camparsions hooking them up several different ways, and the Dash speakers really help.

Im sure there are a couple out there that will fit but the Infinities are the only ones I have found personally that fit with no modification to door or door panel. I have tried Quart, JL, Kicker, Boston, Sony, Cadence, JBL and Im sure there are a couple Im forgetting.Dr_EluSivE said:
My opinion on the dash speakers stands. Short of components or nice coaxials in kick pods, a good pair of door speakers alone will give the best sound quality. There are 2 real problems with the dash speakers...one is that they are so close to so much glass that their placement exagerates the high end way too much. If thats what you call clarity then to each his own. Personally it gives me a headache. I prefer an even frequency response over cymbals and high voices blaring in my face. Second problem is that one speaker is way closer to the listener than the other. While door placement isnt optimum either, the pathlengths are a bunch closer than the dash speakers. Since its pretty much impossible in most cars to sit in the center of your speakers, the farther away the better. Another problem is that you have 2 different sized speakers with different frequency response and different pathlengthss fighting for the same space in the sound spectrum. Not a good thing.
why did you have to run wire from the car? if you peel back some more of the plastic sheet to where the wires for the window and lock switches are you will see a 2 wire connector taped into the main bundle, these are your speaker wires . I went to ford and got 2 matching connectors and hooked them to my speaker wires, wiring done!!!!

No speakers in the doors of my 80 stang but I replaced the front dash ones and fitted 4" kenwoods in there. sounded good to.
the rear has kenwood factory replacements.
