i know there are a trillion of these threads, but none to answer my needs.number one, will everything from my 89 go to my 91.the 89 is getting the stick and the 91 is getting the auto.i can swap ecm,and all tranny stuff.right?what kind of time am i looking at?any special tools i need?any tricks or tips that would help?can i do this in my driveway?i am the only one i trust on my car,but i never done tranny work like this.have patience with me.any suggestions?thanx

can be done, might take about 30hrs a swap... and maybe a lil more with the auto... heavyer and more of a pain... you have to do a couple extra things like swap the computers...

when i did my t5 swap... took me about 6hrs to do the pedals, and baout 13hrs to swap the trannys... plus extra couple to adjust the clutch cable.... install new speedo cable, and quad

really basic hand tools, torque wrench and clutch alignment tools thats all!

i did it all in my drive way, in two weekends... with no prior tranny swaps or experience

No need to do a puter swap because the auto is an AOD non electronic. Just pull trans out of one then do the other and swap flywheels and backing plates (plate between motor and trans) Crossmembers will be the same. Keep the driveshafts with the trans. Swap out both pedal assemblies out and cables and do a little wiring. May I ask why you are doing this.

i just got the 91 and i want the 5 speed in it,to go in my 89 that has all my goodies.then put the auto from the 89 to the 91,sell the 91,use the money to get a set of heads and a poweradder.if i didnt have suspension work, painted body, wing, nice interior,i would just swap engines.so i swap both tranny and sell the 91 which is now auto.madness huh?what about a wiring harness on the tranny?sombody said somthing about that?is there one and what all does it go to?also, with the pedals,is there holes to cut,or will they bolt right in?thanx again.

  This is incorrect information. You have to switch the computers because both cars are mass air. You can run an auto mass air computer in a five speed, but you cannot run a 5 speed mass air computer in an auto car. Make sure you swap the computers.

i have to swap puters anyway because the auto has a chip i need to have reburned for the stick .why have to wire for the back up lights?i can see the neutral safty, but dont understand the other.is it all one harness or justa few wires?thanx again

hydralic? what do you mean by hydraulic?the automatic has shift points and things like that that the stick dont.how could you not change them. i dont understand . the less work i have to do,the better, but i thought this part was necessary.

wow... it's been a long time since I've looked at any of this, so I can't remember the specifics.. but, I believe there are differences between the A9L and A9P harnesses. There was one pin on the harness that provided a 12v signal that, when the wrong EEC was used on the harness would cause issues when the wrong EEC was used. unfortunately, I can't remember much more. you could try ecctuning.org for more info.

What I mean by hydraulic is that the AOD is not computer controlled. It has a governor and a TV cable. Nothing computerized. Its all done by how hard your foot is on the floor. So you mean to tell me that the computer is different from a stang with a T-5 and a stang with an AOD. I dont see how.

i thought the comp controlled the shift points etc.i know nothing as far as trannys go.i have a shift kit in it now ,the shifts are way better, crisper, faster shifting than before, but i love a 5 spd.i would rather have a 6 spd,but i dont have the money 4 that.

so the guy that burned my chip either lied or did not know what he was doin for the chip to affect the puter.utterly useless to have any tranny changes on the chip because not controlled by ecm.so is my comp getting tranny info from the chip it dont need,or does it ignore it?

The computer does not control your tranny at all. The tranny sends no info to the computer at all. The chip if for you engine only. The TV cable controls the trans which is connected to the throttle bode be your accel cable which is all controlled by you foot. If you have an AODE trans than yes your puter controls it it. You have a 91 you have an AOD ( Automatic Overdrive)

An AODE (Automatic Overdrive Electric)

got it.i have had to adjust the tv in the past,i should have rememberd that..so i should not touch the comp other than swap and burn the chip ,again and tell the programmer NOT to burn shift points.he should know that though.thanx for all the help guys, later
