I have a 95 gt with a few mods (in sig) and a KC clutch. I'm wondering the preferred method to launch at a drag strip. I'm very new to this, but today i visited a drag strip and i'd like to get some practice in on launching before i take it to the track. Thanks for any help.

I remember a thread about this about a year ago. I think it came down to choosing your variable (whether to feather the throttle or the clutch). Everyone seems to have their own way.

yea, it seems it would be easier to let the clutch out gradually, but will this burn a clutch out faster?

depends on the tires. start at 2000 and go from there if you have street tires. ive had my best luck a little under 2000. im going wed, cant wait.

Yes its more wear on the clutch...how much? Im not sure. Its not gonna make your clutch go bad instantly though.

The key is to just get the most power to the ground without losing traction. I think its better to work the clutch since the power will be there...just waiting instead of the power coming and going like if u were feathuring the throttle.

Just go out and pick an rpm....try 2000 like the guy said above. If u break the tires lose, either let the clutch out slower, or give a little less gas...or lower the RPM point. Basically, just practice your ass off all the time Thats how u learn what you and the car likes. They key is to get the car rolling and lay on the power gradually with street tires. With drag radials and even more with slicks, just drop the hammer and go. (drag radials still take skill though)

An older guy with a vette used to say this all the time to me when trying to take off on street tires, "just act like u're goin to get groceries....and then LAY INTO IT!"
