Drag Racing Ticket

so yea for the many of you that don't know me because I'm very new to this form I'll introduce myself a bit to explain the story better. I'm from a large west suburbs of Chicago and i have had a V6 mustang since i was 18. I had an idea to put a 5.0 and T56 trans with full exhaust on this car and keep my insurance down. well I said F that idea and bought a 95 GT Convertible with every option I wanted on the car. Took me 4 months to find it and it was 1,000 miles away. Well I got it. pulled the engine out and re sealed the engine to stop the oil leaks and converited it from an Auto to the manual with the T56. put the BBK long tube headers and off road H-pipes on it with a Flowmaster mufflers. finaly finished it and got her running real nice. fixed all the little bugs and took the smog pump off.

well last night I pull up to a light and a Subaru Impreza pulles up next to me and starts reving at me. Normaly I wouldn't even bother with these kids but he had 2 girls in his car and i wanted to make fun of his POS 4 banger so I reved back at him and watched these girls laugh at him by how much more power my car has.

Now you must understand I have only been driving a manual now for about 10 days and never raced in one either so i didn't really know how to launch. so I just dump the clutch and slam the gas. All of first gear im roasting my tires. So I shift into second and let my tires catch and catch up to him and pass him in 3rd . then all i see is the sparcle of the police car over the hill a block up the street. I knew it was over from there.

so I was real nice to the officer and talked with him for a few minutes and explained to him that I have never done this before, and I explained that I was a full time student and Southern Illinois University studying Automotive Technology and I also work full time and I'm a very responsible person. He still wrote me 2 tickets one for squeeling the tires and another for drag racing. But he said he would make some nice comments on there for me about being very nice and respectful and told me to bring a lawyer to court and they may be able to drop it to just a speeding ticket.

you need to at least talk to a laywer,in alot of states you do loose your liscense with a drag racing ticket and it can cancel your insurance policy which will require you to get a high cost insurance. a decent laywer can get it dropped to a speeding ticket i have seen this done..

A guy I used to work with more than one upped you on this one.. but at the end of the day he paid a lawyer $1500 to get his $1000+ in fines dropped to $200 and required drivers safety training... Usually well worth the $$ but the lawyer can tell you that...

that is too bad man. i am one of the first people to back down from a street race and tell them to come to the track with me, but sometime you are just in some mode and the car next to you just sets you off. anyways i am from the south suburbs of chicago (tinley park), what western suburb are you in?

NOT promoting it but if your car is super powerful and super traction, you can pull away from some1 b4 you reach the speed limit and without squealing hehehehe. And never go over the speed limit. Low 5.0 is probably one of those guys wit hthat huge engine and drack radials on the car, lol.

yea the other guy got pulled over too. The officer gave him his ticket before he even talked to me so I don't know if he got shafted or what. anyways a few of my buddies have been in tight situations like this and i got his lawyers number. just hope my dad does not find out about it haha. cause he is being very nice to me while I am away at school and pays for my car insurance.

this is y i dont mess around on the street... the 5.0 has enough down low power to pull away from someone b4 the speed limit is hit anyway...

Laws seem to be stricter up here, as of I think last year if you are caught street racing in the greater Toronto area, they impound your car and crush it into a cube, and you lose your lisence for a very long time, 10 years or something, I forget. Really makes you think twice about messing-around with idiots on public roads. Cops are everywhere around here.

Just cause you're under the speed limit doesnt mean u're not drag racing. They can still get you, and if not for drag racing, or squeeling tires, it can be for unsafe acceleration i think. Or simply pull u over and look for something illegal on your car (which most of us probably have A LOT of things)

Either way, there is usually always something they can do, atleast in my experience!

Attorney general says he can seize street-racing cars without laying charges

TORONTO (CP) - The government has the power to seize and destroy cars that have been adapted for street racing, and can do so before a race takes place or any charges are laid, Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant said Wednesday.

Car junkies who pour thousands of dollars into their vehicles to make them as fast as possible are wasting their money, Bryant said. He warned potential racers that all it takes is a tip from police to seize and destroy their cars.

"If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car - obviously for the purpose of street racing - then we can seize those vehicles," Bryant said.

"We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your car, we will crush the parts."

Bryant said cars built for street racing are as dangerous as explosives and can cause catastrophic damage.

On Monday, a truck driver was killed after a crash on Highway 400 that was blamed on speed and dangerous driving.

Prabhjit Multani, 20, and Nauman Nusrat, 19, face charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing death by street racing.

Ravi Badhwar, 20, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

"This was a senseless act that cost a man his life and has left his family without a father, brother and grandfather," Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino said in a release.

"There is no excuse for street racing and aggressive driving, such as the high speeds and unsafe lane changes we have seen recently."

The crash was the third major accident in four days on the busy north-south highway, and the second fatal one.

Bryant said the government has had enough of street racers, and will have no qualms about destroying their cars.

"We don't need to wait until that car hits the road fully loaded," he said.

Bryant also said the Crown has not yet decided whether to appeal the sentences of two young Toronto men who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death after a taxi driver was killed in a crash.

Wang-Piao Dumani Ross and Alexander Ryazanov, both 20, were each handed two-year conditional sentences and two years of probation for their role in the January 2006 crash.

Their lawyers said they weren't racing, although their speeding did constitute dangerous driving.

i got busted for that once....the ticket was Reckless Operation though...supposedly better than an actual Drag Racing ticket. I guess you can get a reckless ticket for something as stupid as sliding into a curb in the snow
Anyway, I paid it in court and got a few points...my insurance never increased.
What did happen though...is i worked for a car dealership detailing cars. Supposedly thier insurance dropped me...couldnt drive thier cars....fired. Came to be that the managers son took my position so I call BS there, but thats no longer important lol.

I have heard some good things about the SIU auto tech program. One of the wifes cousins goes to SIU-E.

sucks you got a ticket, but that is the risk you take when you do on the street. 110% get a lawyer to fix it if you can. It simply is not worth having the points/ticket on your record.

BTW-Since your at SIU (forget if its the E or C that has the auto tech program) check out the local mustang forum at stlmustangs.com. We wont give you too much trouble for being from Chi-town.

If it makes u feel any better, I did a serious bullet movie like burnout ( I haven't done 1 in like 7 years!) just recently. Dummy me tha cop was filling up his car w/ gas 20 feet away at a state owned stop. I lefts smoke EVERYWHERE!

He was kind enouh to only give me a squealing wheels ticket...so there's nothing I can doabut it so I am going to just frame it and hang it in my garrage.
