This may have a really obvious answer but I'll ask anyway.

Will a 315/35R17 DR provide enough benefit over a 275/40R17 to make up for the added weight/rotating mass? My car is a very basic setup making about 240HP/285TQ at the wheels. I wouldn't want to put 315's on it if they would hurt my performance since I'm not pushing gobs of power.

Sounds like a little too much tire for you. I don't have technical data, but I have the experience to know guys with a mild setup like yours run the 275 and below width for DRs.

What size rims are you running? A wider tire isn't always going to mean more traction. If you're running a 8 or 9 inch rim, I'd put some 275's on there.

I have a pair of 17x10.5's. There's plenty of rim for 315's. I would like to try launching on Nitrous.

With that rim width and a 315 it should be awesome. I woudn't worry about the 275.

Yeah, 315 will be perfect.

Heh. I just picked up some 315x40 R17's myself. I'm sporting 325RWHP and got no traction on the 275x35R18's. I'm hoping the 315's drag radials will add some traction for my new upcoming motor.

Go with the 315's haven't put mine on my car yet but it has to look amazing. SO PWAT!
