Drag Radials???

Like everyone else with a couple of more ponies than necessary (or like some of you mad men way to many) traction is a bit of a problem for me. That said, how many of you are running drag radials and what size? How many street miles should I expect to get? Is there something between the traditional BFG T/A and drag radials? I'm currently running 15 X 8 inch wheels out back. I've got a pretty solid 9" rear so I'm not too worried about that.

Appreciate insight!

There is a WHOLE LOT between BFG T/As and drag radials.

I beleive the softer the compound, the shorter the projected miles, the better the traction so doing some shopping on tire rack should help you find tires with better traction than the T/A (and there a lot of them IMO)

I run Nittos with 393 RWHP and while I can't start fast in 1st on the street, I can have plenty of fun in amm my other gears ......unfortunately Nitto doesn't come in 15s

There are guys going real fast on bfg drag radials right now Big daddy Dwayne Gutridge in a 5.0 car just ran a high 7 second pass on bfgs he did it in brandentown just a few weeks ago although he is making about 1200 to 1300 hp I dont think you should have any problem getting your car to hook up with a set of drag radials. You don't think my amazing 273 rwhp and 292 lbs of torque would overpower them???? Oh yee of little faith. 1300 you say, what is that metric hp??? It doesn't compute in my little world.

they make Nitto 555R drag radials... i ran 275/50/15's on my 15 x 8's fit really nice and look fat as hell they hook well after a nice burn out i ran those for about 8000 miles- which is 2 years for me

then i went to 275/50/15 BFG drag radials . they hook really great on the street and track with out really doing a heavy burn out but do wear faster. i have about 4000miles on them and they are BALD

next i will go to ET Streets and i'll let you know how those work

Nittos don't hook quite as well as BFGs but last about 10 times as long. Mickey Thompson is supposed to be coming out (or already has come out with) a D/R this spring, so look at those. Being a Mickey Thompson, I would definitely expect 15 inch tires.

However, realize BFG Radial T/As are relatively hard as far as tires go, and don't stick all that well. I have heard good thigns about Ecsta 712 by Kumho, might want to check them out, as well as some Dunlop tires. These fit in the vast chasm between T/As and Drag Radials.

If you want to go cheap, buy some IMCA tires. They are generally used on dirt tracks, but me and my circle of Mustang buddies all run them on the street. They are 80$ each new, but if you can find some good used ones you can get them from 10-20 each. I paid 10 each for some used ones. Cheap traction. They are probably equivelant to a 275/60. You have to really warm them up though, or they'll spin anyway. They are very soft though. I saw some hoosiers laying outside of some guy's shop the other day. I'm going to try to get them today.
