Dremel the air box

After removing the silencer it obviously creates a larger opening for air to flow in. Would it be beneficial to cut away with a dremel or a hack saw at the airbox and make this opening even bigger?

Couldn't hurt, sound like a decent idea. If I were you, I would try to cut a nice size rectangle about the same size of the opening in the fender well. Should expose some more of the air filter and increase flow a bit. If you do gain anything, however, it would be minimal at best. Maybe 2-3 hp and a little better throttle response. Good luck, post if you notice a difference.

Thanks for the input. Its sort of a give and take.. More air flow, but the larger the whole the more HOT air its sucking in. I guess I just need to play around with it and see whats best.

Best thing to do is either buy a densecharger or other mass air unit and
keep the stock one or leave it in. Being a new car, the gains wont justify
cutting parts and hacking stuff away. If you ever sell it, they will see
you where gutting things and asume its been ragged out. IMO

Yeah, I'd leave the stock airbox stock and get a K&N FIPK-II or Densecharger...something along those lines. I got nearly 10rwHP from my K&N setup...you won't see that much from hacking the stock box to bits.

I did it and didn't notice a SOTP difference. It will breath better though even though it might be warmer air. With the housing around it, you might as well have half of the filter or more not even there.

just my opinion I am no expert. Also my car is a 2000GT, not newer like yours.
