My 2007 5-speed GT went into the shop last week making a click/clunk when the drive was changed from forward to reverse or visa versa. Example, back up out of the garage and there is a click/clunk then when it is put into 1st, when the clutch is first applied, the drivetrain clicks/clunks again. Under the right circumstances, the noise can be duplicated by suddenly letting off the throttle in low or 2nd gear. Has anyone else had a noise like this?? The dealership's tech is going to replace the driveshaft, complete.
Also, the day I took it into the shop, I "missed" the 1st to 2nd shift at high rpm (NOT powershifting) causing THE terrible grinding noise. After that, the tranny started making noise (of course) so they disassembled the tranny and found a broken syncro. Is this a common problem with these transmissions? They wanted to replace the transmission with new, but all are on back order so they are going to just rebuild mine. Should I be worried about them rebuilding the existing tranny vs a complete replacement?
To avoid having tranmission problems in the future should I be looking for an aftermarket shifter like the MGW unit? Please note, I've been shifting for almost 40 years so I'm not a beginner at this, but I've found this particular tranny to be somewhat difficult to shift quickly.
Thank you for any advice/imput.
