I've been hearing some vibration or clunking under the car during hard accelaration and when I'm on the highway and I floor it. I could feel it coming from under. I checked under my car and I could twist the driveshaft side to side a little and move it forward and back a bit. Is it normal for it to have a little play in it?

By the way I solved my previous thread's pinging problem with Seafoam!
Works great!

If it is speed related then it might be something to do with the driveshaft, tire balance, a few things.
But if you arent sure, go and rev it up and see if it shakes at higher RPM's. Or just run the harmonic balancer front and back to feel for some rubber sticking out.

Try twisting the DS on either side of a given U-joint and see if there's slop there. The U-joints themselves should be tight.

Also check things like mounts and control arms.

Good luck.

maybe this will help you guys help me. I just put in on drive push down on the brake and pressed the gas to about 1500 rpm and I heard the clunking. my cuz said there was nothing unusual going on under but I could hear and feel it inside. with more gas the noise just fades away.

probably not the issue but in college I had a Taurus that did that when I'd take off in first (automatic of course) or lay on the brake and lightly press the accelerator....After not figuring it out for a while, I figured out the front motor mount broke and the enigne was lifting and hitting the underside of the hood :nonono:

It wasn't a pretty sight with the hood open
