Driveshaft rubbing E brake bracket

So recently I replaced my trans mount, U joints and new rear shocks and cannot stop my driveshaft from rubbing on the E brake cable bracket. I did remove the counter balance weight that sits under the rear end(think its called a dogbone?), dont know if that will throw something outa whack? My last resort is to get under the car and just cut the bracket out with a dremel but I really dont want to do that.

Driveshaft rubs when I get on the car from 1st gear, hit a dip in the road or have more than 1 person in the car.

So any idea's how to stop this? Thanks

The car was lowered when I bought it and never did it. Didnt start rubbing until I replaced the parts I listed. I have owned 4 stangs....all lowered and never had this problem. There has to be something wrong somewhere.

the stock trans mount was probably worn and sagging, the new one lifted up the rear of the trans causing the DS to be closer to the floor......

+1 the trans mount was worn bad. the same with mine, i replaced it and now it rubbs. so i put 1/2inch spacers in and now it does it some times. maybe if you put a pinion snubber on the body side of the car itll take care of some the issue afer yu raise it back up some.

well the trans mount was broken clean in half,had to replace it and I used a ford mount, not some cheap autozone crap. What is a pinion snubber? Guess illjust have to cut the bracket out?

no no no, you dont want to do that, then your e-brake wont work right. a pinion snubber bolte to the under body directly above the front of the rear end. it keeps the front of the rear end were the d/s bolts to the pinion flange from thrusting upwards and letting your d/s hit the under body or trans/drive train tunnel.

Guess im getting the pinion snubber, found them pretty cheap. Thanks for the help but I have one more question.

I removed the counter balance weight the bolts in under the rear end, would that make any difference? Should I put it back in? Also when I removed it I noticed that one side was bolted in tight, flush to the pumpkin and the other side had some up and down movment, is that normal or should I not worry and just toss it?

We ran into the same issue with friends '96. It wasn't the trans mount. Looks to be due to worn out control arm bushings of all things

+1 on the control arm bushings, mine were changed before the trans mount, but the pinion snubber isnt a bad idea though if you have not enough moola or time for the bushings. because i highly recomend the poly urathane kind.

I plan on changing both next weekend. Hope it works.
