When I first tried the TKO swap I got a really bad vibration using washers as spacers for the driveshaft instead of the driveshaft spacer other companies make. D&D told me I absolutely need that spacer (balanced correctly) and that they sell that spacer to every person doing a TKO swap. (Called them again today to confirm this).

Someone on another site is telling me he never had to use a spacer and that his car was fine, another guy said he's been driving without a spacer for 4 years. Anyone else been able to pull this off? There's no way I could do that on my car, vibration was horrible without that spacer even with bellhousing indexed and tranny height adjusted to stock.

I have a G-Force trans now.

My friend had a TKO lying around, he said if I could get it to work I could buy it from him. It was hitting the trans tunnel and it was used so I gave it back to him. THe DS spacer did take away the vibration though.

I was told you dont need it, but should have it, without it the driveshaft wont go all the way into the tranny.

I used one on my TKO swap. I never truly checked but by the looks of it if you didnt use it the slip yoke would be really far out of the tranny.

You didn't have any vibrations or anything? My car felt like I was riding a bulldozer.

Why would you spend all that money on a nice trans then skimp there?
YES you do need the spacer, the d/s yoke doesnt go in the tailshaft the correct length w/o one....sure it will work w/o one, but its not correct. I'd be scared to drive around with my d/s not seated far enuff in the trans.

Like i said the reason you need one with a tremac or a fox tranny is the output shaft is 3/4 " longer on the SN95's. As far as I know (and thats not much ) tremac dosent make a longer output shaft for there tranny's thats why the spacer is needed, to where if you get a Gforce or a fox tranny you can swap out the output shaft and bell housing! The guy that emailed me about the spacer needs to chime in!!!!!!!!!!! peace

Here's some food for thought..........Then why can everybody use the same aluminum ford racing d/s designed for 79-95 5.0???? Yes we have a longer input shaft (5/8 lonnger) but can use the same d/s the foxes use................Things that make you go hmmmmmmm

When you put in A TKO you need to use a driveshaft for a 96-98 cobra and a spacer.I got one from Steeda I think the size was 11/16.Thats how it was explained to me when I did my swap but I'm getting a vibration at 80.I dont think the spacer is causing it though but not sure.Everything fits great..Just having some clutch problems.....

Only certain TKO trans require the different yoke from the Cobra's right? Or is it all of them.

The same guy that told me he didn't have to use a spacer also said you can use the stock yoke.

We NEED the 31 spline yoke. I think 96-98 cobras come with a 31 spline yoke so they dont need one. I guess you could buy a 96-98 cobra DS or just get the yoke swapped.

yes, use a spacer. Metal will twist and/or break! over time with hard driving something will happen. $1,600 tranny/$60 spacer:Zip2:

All TKO's new and old need a 31 spline yoke correct? There isn't a special TKO floating around that can use a stock driveshaft?

Ok, are we saying that ALL versions, or SOME versions need this spacer? I have the older TKO, and plan on putting it on as soon as the temp gets over 50 *F outside and I need to know if this spacer is needed. I guess there was the TKO, and then there was the TKO 500, and then the TKO 600.
Does anyone have a picture of this spacer?

Most people say that you need a spacer for all the TKO transmissions. I absolutely needed it to keep the vibration away.

I just posted this to see how many people aren't using one since on another thread some guy told me he's been running no spacer for 4 years without a problem. Seemed like BS to me
