I marked the yoke before removal but the paint got wiped off.should I move the shaft like 180deg or just go to the next hole and see how that does.
Im assuming the vib is from the driveshaft and not something like carrier runout. If I depress the clutch the noise goes away.

with gears the DS spins at much faster speeds than it ever did with stockers.
i've heard people get their current shaft spun balanced for the gears.

but the alum will work too.

the D/S spins the same as your engine tells it to no matter what gears are in the rear. The only reason the D/S will spinn faster would be cause you will be reving a little higher say doing 60 mph than doing 60mph with the taller (old) gears.

ya the DS spins only as fast as the wheels are going, say your in 1st doing 15 mph, then switch to 2nd at 15 mph, the DS still is the same speed.

the ds always connected to wheels via the rearend, it doesnt change at all.
but when you switch gears, the engine is forced to rev up or down depending if your upshifting or downshifting.

with gears the DS spinds faster at every speed compared to stock gears.

I would try moving the DS to the next hole. If it didn't vibrate before the gear change it shouldn't vibrate after the gear change.

They almost always vibrate after a gear change. It should be a "pre-requisit" sp? to purchase a aluminum DS with you gears. That will solve your problem. Give th eshaft a spin to the next hole, or 180* and see what happens.

The drive shaft and companion flange should have marks from the Factory, and it could only be off 180 degrees not 1 hole. Do yourself a huge favor and just buy the Ford Racing Aluminum Driveshaft!

I had this problem from just taking my driveshaft out and putting it back in (mine was marked before also). I pulled mine back out and re-inserted the driveshaft into the transmission in such a way that it just slid onto the splines with little to no force needed. I remember a couple times before it seemed to be a little snug but with some pushing on it, it finally went (This I feel is the wrong way).

So if you noticed any resistance when you put your driveshaft in the transmission, keep trying until it slids in with ease. This cured my bad vibration problems at 65mph+

I had this problem after installing 4.10s. I put on a friends driveshaft and its gone. So in the meantime I had my stock one balanced and put in new u joints....Sure enough it still shakes just as bad as before. Now I'm just saving for an aluminum driveshaft.
