This is really a basic question: I bought my 06 with the low cost painted wheels, they are now starting to grow on me. Since I am older, I like the look of beefy tires on a muscle car. How "large" of a tire can I put on 17" rims? How does one get more tire and less rim? I read a great article in mustang enthusiast regarding lowering and changing the spacing on the tires, I'd rather have bigger tires on the back than the front, nothing outrageous, enough to make me happy would be fine.
I know this question is very basic, it has been years since I"ve had a wrench in my hand for more than changing a battery!
regards,
Doc

larger diameter 17" tires in a performance tire will be very limited. i would suggest stepping up to a larger diameter wheel, but you said you liked the "cheapie" wheels. basically you need a higher aspect ratio to increase the sidewall height, ie. 255/XX/17 tire. the larger the XX in the tire size, the taller it will be. but, if you increase the width, you would have to keep the same aspect ratio or go even larger for a taller tire.

Since you are an older person (so am I), you should upgrade to an 18" wheel in the same style as you have because there are several different tire width options that can be used with this wheel diameter...

The 18" wheel will give your stang some added handling too...

Also, don't forget that the 18" wheels come in 9" or 10" widths which can provide you with several tire choices...
