Does any one know how to wire up a Dura Spark II box and distributor, or does any one have a diagram? I am trying to help out a kid who is a friend of my son and he has no money, supports his mom and dad, but wants to put his mustang on the road.

He has a new Dur spark II ignition but the prior owner cut all the wiring out of the car. Its and 83 Mustang with an 86 5.0 and a torino 3spd tranny. Right now we just want it to run. He sunk all of his savings into the car, prior owner told him lots of stories about what a great deal he was getting.

I'd really like to help this kid out, he's going to school to be a police officer, supporting his mom and dad, and is just a great kid who got taken for a ride from a dishonest individual.
I would appreciate any help at all.
Thanks, Dan

Does the engine still have the 83 distributor installed?
If so, my duraspark unit just had 2 bundles of wires :

- 1 bundle of 4 wires where 3 of them go to the distributor, the one that's left over (green) is for the tach and also goes to the coil
- 1 bundle of 2 wires that power the dura spark unit

the coil basically needs + power coming from a wire that supplies current when the ignition key is turned in the "on" position, and on the other connector the green wire coming from the duraspark unit.

If you can't get it running like that, you can go for a points distributor, or maybe an ignitor system?

good luck,

Phil

Here is a diagram http://www.mustangsteve.com/conversion.html

Run a wire that has 12V when the car is in the run position. This wire will then go to the red wire on the ignition box, and also to the pos. side of the coil. Next run the green wire from the ign. box to the neg side of the coil. Finally hook the black, purple, and orange wire from the ign box to the coil. The white wire is optional, it retards the timing during start up so you can hook that up to the S post on the starter selnoid. BTW be aware that some coils require 6V while others like the MSD blaster 2 require 12 V on the positive side of the coil.

Good luck,

Mario
