Dying Seat belts, Anybody done this?

Just wondering if anybody has tried to dye the seatbelts in their car, and where people are gettin black seatbelts when they put a black interior in their car. I was thinking that a fabric dye that you mix with water would work. I have seen people dye their carpets with similiar stuff and i dont see why it wouldnt work on say a grey set of seatbelts. Im gonna be honest here tho. i hardly ever where my seat belt so it wouldnt get alot of abuse, i just want it to look nice with the black interior. I will have harnesses in the car on the roll bars for the race track.

I did it, it's not holding up well one some areas, holiding up alright on the actual belt.

its fabric so i dont see why it shouldnt work. just mix the dye kinda heavy and let it soak for a while.

Dying seat belts will weaken the strength of the fabric and if you are wearing it and get in an accident, it may tear and not save you. There is a company selling brand new Mustang seat belts on ebay... I just bought a black set and they are really top quality.

I got mine for $229, but I just checked and they don't have anymore listed... they must've sold out. If you keep looking, maybe they'll list them again when they get more in stock.

IM really not intested in paying 240 bucks for seatbelts that wont get used anyway , i mean my girlfriend will wear hers but thats it. The ones in the backseat will just be for show, nobody will be back there. The driver one will hardly get used, im an idiot and dont wear my half the time. I dont know need the preaching about, im aware of the consequences.

this sucks cuz i just found a set of mint black seatbelts front back everything, on ebay. i was watching them and wanted to bid but didnt have the money, they went for 102 dollars, dammit, why do i have to be broke? Never find a deal like that again, and they were local in new jersey, close to me

i don't care what you think, i guess i'm preaching now. wear a ****ing seatbelt. its absolutely retarded to not wear one on a daily basis. i'm not going to get into it much though... your choice i guess. i know what will eventually happen.

To me its a 50/50 situation, in janurary i almost lost my best friend in a car accident in which he WAS wearing his seatbelt. He was a passenger in the car and the dude hit a telephone pole, the seatbelt caused a laceration in his spleen that he almost died from , from bleeding internally. That hit pretty close to home, so i know your gonna say its a one in a million thing where a seatbelt hurts you instaed of saving you. But so is goin into the war , granted you probably have more chance dying in the u.s. in lets say a car accidnet than you do in iraq. but tell that to my highschool friend who got blown up from an IED.

I painted my grey belts with black vinyl spray, Granted they are not black but rather charcoal grey, similar to my 03 cobra seats and the seats in my old Bullitt.

They are holding up well after several months and several thousand miles and would require a simple touch up to look great again.

Don't use Rit Dye, it won't work on the seatbelt because they are nylon (I tried). Use black vinyl spray, you'll be very pleased. Also, use your seat belt, you're not smarter than major car manufacturer engineers.

OK again i have to say why do this? why not buy new ones the colour you want ? some of these ideas Ive seen lately! are you people all strapped for cash ??? so buy new and be done with it! or make a trip to the wreckers and find some the colour you want!

I tell you what, you go to the junkyard and find 91-93 Black seat belts, and send them my way. I think every Mustang owner is strapped for cash for the most part, and $200 or so for seat belts isn't worth it for me, when the dye is $5 or less at Walmart.

Not everyone can afford the perfect car with all the best parts out there.

exactly when you spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on the other things on the car, you start to run ouf of money. I got like 5 grand tied up into parts that arent even on the car yet. I have another 2000 to spend on just paint so spending another few hundred on seabelts isnt really an option right now.

I would be more inclined to install some 5 point harnesses for that price, and i wouldn't trust dying them because it does weaken the nylon. Also as for dying in general, i just dyed a pair of jeans black for work and they turned out a very dark blue...not even black. I'd almost guarantee you that's what you'd get with the belts too. And i didn't just soak mine in dye water, i boiled them on the stove for a hour with a cup of salt in the mix (supposed to help keep the dye in the fabric). That's just with blue jean material, nylon is more dense and even harder to dye. My advice would be to search for stock belts in the color you want....they ARE out there and you can get them cheap if you look hard enough.
