Sorry if this has been explained before (the searches I tried returned WAY too many results to wade thru), but I have a question about the 15% loss between flywheel HP and RWHP:
So the more power you make at the flywheel, the more power you lose before it gets to the pavement? How is that? The power is going thru the same componets, but at 15% loss, then I'm losing more power after mods than before mods. That would mean that the transfer of power is more efficient at lower power levels?? Or is the 15% power loss just a rule of thumb and you're actually losing much more at higher HP levels?

15% is 15% no matter if you 200 hp or 800 hp it is still 15%.
15% of 200 is 170 hp -30 hp
15% of 800 is 680hp -120 hp

you loss more hp but the ratio stays the same. If this helps

Right..That makes sense...I guess I'm just wondering why the loss is greater since the componets that would cause the loss are still the same.
The loss would be caused by the friction in the tranny, rearend, rotational loss, friction, friction, friction....so none of that changes if I bolt on more HP so why would the loss be greater (120hp now instead of 30hp)?

Its the law of averages..

Plus when you start making bigger power you have to factor in for example a blower.It takes power to turn the blower ,blower belt ,etc..Thats why turbo cars make more power on the same setup that a blower was on..Nothing to turn so the car makes more power..
