dyno numbers

i'm not for shure that i'll hit those number's but i think i'll be really close! maybe 375hp and tq will hopefully be just as close. going shopping next weekend!!!! with whats in the garage now i should be about 250hp and 300tq. if ya want i can show it to ya at the track in a couple of weeks :D peace
A 351 should get you there. Or a boosted 302.

In all seriousness, the actual number does not mean a thing. If you are tuning and the number goes up you are going the correct direction in your tuning. If the number goes down you are going the wrong direction. Like jeff said the important thing is to find a good dyno facility and stick with it so you are comparing apples to apples. One day I hope to make an appointment at all the local shops and run the same car with the same tune at the same temp and than post the numbers. I think some of you would be amazed at how far off the numbers will be. One thing most people tend to get caught up with is peak numbers. How long durring a drag race are you at the specific rpm where your peak power number is? Not long, thats what Dave is talking about with the timing curve i'm guessing. The curve is more important than the peak. Ever see a supra dyno graph? It's no wonder they run high 11s with 600+ to the wheels. Also if the car has a auto with a loose converter forget about a great number. We had an auto car on the dyno once that put down 317 to the tires and ran a 7.1 in the 1/8 mile at 3100 lbs. thats a 11.20 in the 1/4. I have also seen several people over 500 to the wheels that could not break into the 11s.

Just my 2 cents worth!

We just dyno'd my Stang...laid down a sic 317hp...but runs 12.20's with Jeff driving. With 3.73 gears it would be an 11 pretty easily. Pretty sad to see that low of a #, but with an auto with a loose converter it happens. Dyno's are great but the track is THE great equalizer

slicks = mid 11's

I was not picking on you ed there are several.
I know Jeff, I was just picking on my self because I know my car has the potential, its me that needs some work, especially with putting ther power down to the ground.Anyone can develop good horsepower/dyno #s.But whats seperates the men from the boys is doing it at the track and I will its just a matter of practice .This is the begining of my 3rd season at the drag strip in my entire life ..thought I was a good driver on the streets but the track is a totaly new ball game.But thats what makes it so much fun is setting and meeting your goals, although I must say it can be difficult.I'm glad its the begining of the track season..gives me lots a time for more practice :nice:

It all comes down to the driver. I can make any car slow, including yours... :)

Now, if I could just find someone to lend me a set of DR's for next weekend, maybe I can beat Ed to the 11's. Now wouldn't that be hysterical... (sorry Ed, I couldn't resist :jester: )

Yeah I decided not to blow 600 bucks on wheels & tires just to get an 11.99 ET. The Cobra did so well on street tires, I was very tempted. I'd pay to "rent" somebody's DR's, but 500+ bucks just for one night of fun is over my budget.
