I have an 89 5.0 with bbk long tubes, off road x pipe and bullet style mufflers and under drive pulleys. Other than that, it's stock. There is a shop not too far from where I live that will dyno tune it for 250. Is it worth the money? What kind of gains would I see?

No...you don't need a dyno tune for those mods. The air fuel might be a little off with the longtubes relocating the o2s but its nothing major.

If you get anywhere near 220rwhp, be happy.

complete waste of money IMO. take that $250 and buy a used 70mm TB, EGR plate and get a MAF from a 94-95 GT. You can also get a fenderwell CAI if you have money left over. ( I have one for sale for $75..lol ) Alsoi would , ditch the U/D pulleys, on a street car they are not worth the 5hp in exchange for the charging and cooling issues.

The stock intake tract is already a "CAI," so don't rush to replace it, although I agree on the underdrive pulleys. The gain isn't really worth the cost on a street car.

And no, you don't need a dyno tune just for full exhaust. You'd be better off buying your own $200 wideband O2 sensor just to know what's going on or even better, something like a Moates Quarterhorse. Without one, all the dyno shop could do for a "tune" is adjust fuel pressure and base ignition timing.

I agree with keeping the stock air box.. Put a k&n in it and be done with it.. Most times the cold air intake will cause turbulence and screw with the Maf.
As for the pulleys, I never had any cooling issues with them installed, I did not have the alternator pulley on though.
Agree with putting your money into somthing else though. Maybe a set of gears. That will wake up the car some.
