Which one can hold more boost? I really DONT mind the "lag" of a centri blower.....i just want some nice power....and like i said....down the line when i build it....i'm not trying to get bummed out cause the blower can't produce enough boost....so, for the best street/strip (mainly strip) blower.....ESPECIALLY for those of you that already have it done.....which is the best????

I RARELY drive the car on the street to be honest....i drive my crx or my mom's car alot for fuel economy reasons.....

So many people get wrapped up on how much "boost" they're going to see with their blower, that they don't see the big picture. I’ll tell you right now, so listen very carefully……Boost means ****!!! Get that thought into your head right now, because you're just going to confuse yourself more than you already have otherwise.

What you want to concentrate on is not boost pressure, but airflow and more specifically total volume. You can see 10psi with a stock intake and small exhaust with very little effort, but it doesn't mean you're going to be making huge loads of power. Boost is a measure of restriction within the system combined with an engines ability to utilize incoming airflow, nothing more. As air stacks up within the intake, positive manifold pressure is created and this is where you see your high "boost" levels!

But, a less restrictive manifold, high flow exhaust, different set of cams, etc, etc....a guess what.....boost levels go down, but power goes up.....waaaay up!!! That’s why you see guys in ’99-up Mustangs putting down 30-50rwhp more than the ’96-’98 GT’s. Both can be pullied to see the same amount of boost on the gauge, but since the later model engine utilizes the incoming airflow so much more efficiently, the power levels are that much better.

As far as the 1.7KB and the P1SC go, both blowers are on pretty even ground with one and other as far as their ability to make horsepower is concerned. The KB might make a little more torque down low and the PISC might make a little more horsepower up high, but generally they’re on pretty even terms. Don't expect to be seeing anything more than about 450rwhp out of either blower with modest bolt ons on the street, because after that they both start showing their limitations and running out of their efficiency ranges where heat and design characteristics become a problem. This can be countered slightly by adding race gas, pulling timing, adding fuel etc, upgrading the cooling system, but those aren't issues you want to have to deal with on a daily basis and you've still got to contend with the blowers physical limitations.

Pick your horsepower level, decide where you want to see/feel the majority of said horsepower, see which set up fits best within your budget and go from there. Otherwise, listening to a bunch of replies based on personal preference is going to get you nowhere, fast!!!
 
Agreed I would avoid the P1SC...they seem to max @ around 500RWHP...about the same as the 1.7. Most 1.7 owners seem to be saving for the 2.2 when they forge the engine, so I wouldnt waste your money on it, unless you never want more than around 500 (which is ALOT) .

A 500RWHP 1.7 GT will walk a 500RWHP ATI car in the 1/4.


So basically those 2 blowers really limit you now...and the 2.2 setup is around $8400 (screw that).

Best bet IMHO is to get the novi 2000 mongoos kit from MPH.
Its like $4200 http://modularpowerhouse.com/produc...d=122&osCsid=b1cdda18cef3f67ec42f9d451899147f and will make around 400RWHP if you get a nice tune on it with your mods....thats with no IC and 10PSI. Then later you can throw on an IC and get a forged motor and basically the sky is the limit.

when he switched from a centri blower, to a kb, his ets dropped. it may not provide as much peak power, but there's more power under the curve.

I'm just trying to spit out what I read a while back, so don't bamboozle me with your vast knowledge brian :). I still have your blower thread on my favorites :D.

I appreciate the acknowledgement. :D

....but that wasn't a comparison between a 1.7L KB and a P1SC in that instance, it was between a 2.2L KB and a Novi 2000....and there were a couple of other mitigating circumstances and differences between the two combinations that altered the results in favor of the Kenne Bell. Either way, it wasn't enough proof for me to consider one vastly superior over the other, but not everyone looks at it that way. :)

Damn 2700 for the tuner kit! Superchargers4less.com sells the tuner kit for like 2300.

That doesn't include the price of fabbing up everything to make the intercooler work with the vortech. They aren't exactly designed that way so i imagine it won't be cheap to make it happen.

No, just ask tim. They have done alot of conversions, and EVERY one has a better ET. AN 9 times out of 10, the peak RWHP is lower. I think one was 70RWHP lower and still had a better ET.

Full boost as soon as you shift and ALL the way to red line> Half boost climing to full at redline. Its simple as that...its not rocket science lol.
 
The horsepower pissing contest still kills me. Right now my car has an intake manifold gasket leak (i'm sure that's my problem now) and I'm only seeing 6#'s of boost due to the leak down and 370rwhp and 373rwtq on a Mustang dyno after we detuned it due to scary amounts of timing and it still hauls ass. If i were you i would stick with one of the entry level blowers, KB 1.7, or Vortech V2. 400HP is a lot for a street car. The limits of these blowers at around 500rwhp is stupid amounts of power for a street car. I've been babying my car until I can get it fixed and it still breaks the tires loose in 3rd with 315's. Any 400HP car is no joke. Go with what makes you happy, save some cash and go for a Centri blower or go for major low end torque and get a KB. Either one you should be happy with. I can't imagine what 500rwhp is going to feel like when I get mine working right. That is a helluva lot of power! Don't really need it but will be fun to have.
