Dyno / Tune worth it?

you have a 2004 GT vert? look i got the same thing, 5spd. it dyno'd at 232.2 bone stock. i took out the air silencer. but had the original filter and everything. i bet your close to this. i would put that $$$ into your intake or gears or something that will help drop your 1/4 times or give you more HP. thats just MO. I just wanted to know how much power i had before i started bolting parts on, ya know. so i had it dyno'd for power but not a dyno tune. I wouldnt dyno tune it until you near the end of your bolt on's.

BUT! you had some major a/f problems that were resolved by the tune. Your gains are by no means what people can normally expect, even with the mods you listed.

Yes, but generally if people are going to be opening the induction and exhaust up like I did they're gonna have the same A/F problems.

Not true, until you've pegged the abilities of the stock maf, or changed the configuration of the MAF to the point that it has a problem reading correct values the stock tune will remain very close to its commanded values. I had very similar mods to you before the supercharger, and the stock tune was within a few tenths of the 12:1 ratio the stock tune commands. Your dyno showed upwards of 15:1. If everyone with standard bolt-ons like yours ran that lean, under WOT you'd be hearing about alot more people blowing engines from bolt-ons.

I agree somewhat.. I only said generally they would have some a/f problems because in a lot of dyno graphs I see they run too lean at some point in their curve, it's not as perfect as yours sounded. All the low end power I gained was definately because it was too lean, you could see in the curve it was starving for fuel.
 
Most bolt ons have no impact on a base tune. The factory tune is made to keep warranty and service issues to a minimum. Yes, they could have put in more advance at the factory, but everyone who gets poor quality fuel will be knocking on Ford's door. They also keep the a/f mixture slightly on the rich side to keep emissions down. You will gain from an aftermarket tune, with or without major mods. The concern is major mods (like power adders) will require a new tune. If a power adder is in your future for sure, then it would be wiser to wait.
