E Brake Cable Snapped - will this work? *pics inside*

I posted this once, but maybe it didn't go through; I have posted in over a year, so maybe that's my punishment

I guess the 7 years of yanking my e-brake lever w/ all my might has finally caught up to me: My e-brake cable snapped a couple months ago. I'd rather have my e-brake working.

I thought I could make a bracket to connect the e-brake handle to the rear brake (similar to how I suppose the stock system works).

Here was my plan:
I took two pieces of scrap metal and made them so that one would contain the end of the rear brake cables from the top and one would keep it from falling from the bottom. Additionally, sandwiched/bolted together, they hold the e-brake cable from the handle.

I haven't been able to get it to work yet. I dropped the driveshaft to give some more room to work. I pressed down on the pulley that the cable goes on in the cabin of the car and stuck a pair of plyers in there to get it to hold there so the cable would be fully extended. I tighened it all up on the underside and it won't work. I finally had enough pressure on it that my little cable clamp let go of the cable.

I'm tired of messing w/ it, but I don't want to give up.

Anyone think this will work? If not, what else can I do? The stock cable is snapped, so I have to clamp on to it somehow to extend it. I was gonna use 2 clamps on it, maybe I should do that.

Any other ideas about this whole thing?

I decided to give it another shot.

I used 2 clamps to hold the new cable to the snapped old cable. I used a bungee cord to hold the bracket tight (so the bracket was as far as it would go against the ends of the rear brake cables), and tightened the nuts as tight as I could get them. After pulling the handle up 7 clicks, sometimes 8, my car doesn't roll on an incline in neutral anymore! I'll definitely be easier w/ it now and only use it when I need to.

Dropping the drive shaft really helped.

I guess the moral of the story is: Whatever you're doing, hang in there and you'll eventually get it
