Easier way to change oil pan gasket

hey everyone.. ive been trying to figure out a easier way to change my oil pan gasket instead of pulling the motor. A buddy said i can if i loosen the bolt to the cross memeber just enough to drop the pan.. but i dont know!! PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!


another question... my timing chain cover/gasket is leaking alittle bit. how easy it it to change and should i change the chain and cam too? Can i stick with a E303 cam on a semi stock motor. the only mods i have are TF upper/lower intakes, BBK headers, BBK U/D pullies, MSD coil, cap/rotor, CAI, full 2.5 H-pipe with magnaflows and a new fluidyne radiator...thanks alot for your help

I have always, loosen my motor mounts from the k member and put a jack under the transmission... and jacked it up enough to change the gasket..... you should get a one piece rubber gasket, then you shouldn't have any leaks

I've jacked the motor up in my '90 Mustang to change the oil pan - had to drop the steering rack a bit also. It was an interesting job.

Took me about 4-5 hours start to finish.

so you never said how many miles were on your engine....

I'd rather pull the engine and turn it over to do the work. I hate having oil dripping on me while I'm working under a car...

you could always just drop the K-member and get a tubular k-member

i didnt have to jack up the motor or loosen the motor mounts on mine. just got a 1 piece felpro gasket because the one i ordered from frpp didnt fit. undid all the bolts to the pan. let it drop. peel off the old gasket, made sure all teh peices (if any where there), un clipped the low oil sensor and just slid the new gasket around the old pan. worked like a charm. took a long time because i was just going slow and being careful. but worked much better than jacking up the motor.
