Ebay CAI?

Hey Everyone,

I just recently purchased an 89 GT and was thinking of getting a CAI. I know they don't add to much power over stock, but I wanted one for the looks and if there is a slight increase in performance that's great.

I've seen a couple of CAI's on ebay for pretty cheap (like $40) and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them? I wanted to get a fenderwell unit as I hear they perform a little better.

I think I read somewhere that sometimes the air filters are worse than stock. If this true, is there any replacement filters that will fit one of these units? And how much would they run me?

Thanks for your input!

in my opinion, you get what you pay for. might not be as big of a deal with a CAI, as they really dont benefit a whole lot, but if you buy a $40 CAI, expect to get one worth about $40.

I don't have any experience with 5.0 specific ebay intakes. But I've seen some others off ebay in the $30-$40 range. I wouldn't use one. The couplers don't fit the piping at all, and the filter's are junk knock-off's.

They don't fit very well either, most of these companies don't even test fit this stuff to specific cars.

a friend of mine has one on his car. works like a tube with a filter

honestly get a muffler shop to bend you a $5 piece of 3" tubing. its all good.

Mac makes a good one too

I got the ebay $30 piece and it looks and fits fine. The filter is el-cheapo but you can replace that easily enough. No change in power but it sounds better and definitely looks better

Are you looking at the CAI that terminates inside the engine bay or the one that goes out the fenderwell? It would be a step backward to get one of those with the filter in the engine bay.

I recommend you get the CAI that pulls air from the fenderwell like the stock one.

I'm looking for a fenderwell unit as I hear they get colder air.

I recently took my BBK chrome CAI off and put the stock airbox back on.

Maybe i'm sick, but the stock airbox setup just looks so much better than the typical chrome metal tube that used to heat up to 400 degrees after a long drive.

Spend the $40 on a drop in K&N instead
