eBrake question

this is honestly a really hard question to describe. Do you know the screw where you screw the base of the brake into the chassis(? I believe thats what it screws into.) Well I guess the part that you screw into corroded away and now there is a quarter sized hole where a screw should go. I'm not quite sure how I should fix this, and if it needs further explanation, I'll add pictures of the area I'm talking about tomorrow afternoon. If you have any idea what I'm talking about, help is greatly appreciated.

pics would help... but anything like your describing you can pretty much drill out and weld a bolt under neither.

I'm talking about the bolt on the bottom left of the e-brake. Where you screw that in is corroded away. I can't take a photo tonight because of it being dark but I will upload one or two tomorrow. But yes, I was thinking drilling out and welding it in would be the obvious, and cheapest, fix I could do. I'm considering taking it to a family friend who is a 'Stang enthusiast to have him take a look and see if he can suggest anything.

That's just a bolt that holds it down. Drill a bigger hole, and slip a bolt up through the bottom and nut it down on the top.

I understand its just the bolt that holds it down, but with the size of the hole, i'm not sure i could find a nut and bolt large enough. Sorry for the low quality pictures, it's a cheap camera phone.

you need some welding work there....


you could use a large washer.... but i wouldnt

Word. That's a big hole. I'd weld, but that's because I have a welder. Get a piece of 1/8 or 1/4 inch steel, about an inch wide. Cut off a 4 inch section, and attach it to the bottom of the car. Then drill a hole in that, and bolt it to that.

Get a big steel hardened washer from OSH or Pepboy and weld around the washer. That will be stronger, do this to both holes while you are in there. Your local muffler shop can help you out easy, But yes that's a big hole.

Might also want to take some naval jelly and a small wire brush and brush out any rust there. The just spray a little paint on it to keep it from rusting again.

Thanks guys, Yeah I was assuming welding would be the best option, but wanted to see if there could be any other solution.
